Statement of Objectives
For
NextGen
1. Background The capability provided by this software falls squarely within goal 2 of the Commission’s strategic plan: “promote the development of safe, reliable, secure, and efficient infrastructure that serves the public interest”. Our core use of the software is to verify the efficacy of the applicant’s proposal from an engineering perspective. Furthermore, our ability to efficiently assess the engineering aspect of the proposals is at the core of our interest in promoting Objective 2.1: “Foster economic and environmental benefits for the nation through approval of natural gas and hydropower projects. As an example, our engineering analysis can help to determine if the applicant has over designed the project by designing more capacity than is required for the requested services. Also, our engineering analysis can respond to engineering/operational concerns raised by individuals and other pipeline companies to verify the engineering assumptions and the safe operation of the interstate pipeline.
