Scope of Work
Description of Tasks
The work associated with this project involves the identification, treatment, and mapping of existing weed populations within the specified areas of Brush Creek RD and Bloss Gulch (Illustrated on the attached Maps). The areas include 11 acres of a narrow meadow in Bloss Gulch and 17 acres along a 2.25 mile stretch of NFS RD #272.
The following species have been identified in these areas: Scentless chamomile, Oxeye daisy, Houndstongue, Whitetop, Canada thistle, and Spotted Knapweed.
All work occurs on the Grand Valley Ranger District (Mesa County)
General Work Location
The project is located on the Grand Valley Ranger District of the GMUG National Forest, in the northeastern portion of the Grand Mesa.
The project is located eight miles northeast of Collbran, Colorado.
Bloss Gulch is accessed from a drill pad just off County Rd #64.3 at 39° 18’ 05” -107° 51’ 02”, almost 2.5 miles north of the bridge over Buzzard Creek. From the drill pad follow the 2-track to the north northwest for about a mile. It is necessary to coordinate access with Craig McDaniel (970) 487-3574.
It is physically possible to get a full-sized truck up to the forest boundary in Bloss Gulch but the willows and oak crowd the road so much that it would be prudent to fold the mirrors and remove the antenna. Also, the 2-track crosses a narrow culvert that the beavers will plug and flood if there is any water running.
Truck and trailer parking typically occurs on the drill pad just off the county road. The gate has never been closed and I have had no conflicts. Parking should be out of the roadway, along the edge of the pad, as far away as possible from the various tanks, valves, etc and off the main traveled route across the pad.
The project is a long narrow meadow, about 11 acres. Some of the area is open and gentle enough to be treated with a boom but much of it will need a hose or backpack.
Early in the season there is usually water in Hell’s Gulch so it’s not necessary to go all the way back to the drill pad to refill.
BRUSH CREEK AND BLOSS GULCH INVASIVES FY23
GMUG NATIONAL FOREST – Grand Valley Ranger District
Brush Creek is accessed by continuing up County Road #64.3 for almost a mile beyond the Bloss access drill pad. At the forest boundary County Rd #64.3 becomes Forest Rd #272. This is a lightly graveled road that is almost all -weather for about 1.4 miles. There is no gravel on the last .9 mile and the road can be soft and slippery.
The project is primarily roadside spraying (one to 16 feet off the gravel) with occasional larger patches or wider openings.
1) 39° 18’ 48” -107° 50’ 55” Whitetop 0.1 acre
2) 39° 18’ 53” -107° 50’ 53” Whitetop 0.1
3) 39° 18’ 53” -107° 50’ 49” Spotted Knapweed 0.1
4) 39° 19’ 04” -107° 50’ 53” Whitetop 0.2
5) 39° 19’ 28” -107° 50’ 42” Whitetop 0.1
6) 39° 19’ 37” -107° 50’ 39” Spotted knapweed 0.1
7) 39° 19’ 51” -107° 50’ 40” Houndstongue 2.0 The project is about 2.25 miles long and about 17 acres.
Water is available at the forest boundary and at the creek crossing (culvert) two miles above the boundary.
