Statement of need

For

60 LRS/LGRV

Description: The 60th LRS Vehicle Maintenance Flight requires an 8-ton hoist assembly for its MHE vehicle maintenance facility located at Bldg. 919. This equipment is crucial for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of our fleet of vehicles, which includes both 60k and 25k Loaders and all forklifts 4k, 10k, A/T 10k, 22k and 65k. Our current hoisting capabilities are limited to 2 tons which is inadequate for our required needs and are hindering our ability to perform necessary maintenance tasks effectively. The 8-ton capacity is specifically required to accommodate the weight of our 25k Halverson loader which requires a minimum 7.5 ton lifting capability to separate the deck from the chassis assembly for cylinder rebuilds or replacement.

This hoist will enable our mechanics to:

• Improve Safety: Safely lift and support heavy vehicle components, reducing the risk of workplace injuries associated with manual lifting or inadequate lifting equipment.

• Increase Efficiency: Streamline maintenance procedures, reducing vehicle downtime and improving overall operational efficiency.

• Expand Maintenance Capabilities: Enable the facility to perform a wider range of maintenance tasks in-house.

• Reduce Costs: Minimize reliance on external contractors for heavy lifting operations, resulting in long-term cost savings.

• Improve Service Life of Vehicles: By facilitating proper and timely maintenance, the hoist will contribute to extending the service life of our vehicles.
