About this file

This document appears to be an attachment titled "Attachment_02_Drawings.pdf" related to a federal contract opportunity for "ARCHEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS FOR UNMARKED CEMETERIES AT GLENDALE BATTLEFIELD AND TOTOPOTOMOY CREEK UNITS AT RICHMOND NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD PARK" with Solicitation Number 140P4224Q0041.

The attachment contains maps and GIS guidelines for the proposed project areas at the Glendale Battlefield unit (approximately 5 acres) and the Totopotomoy Creek unit (approximately 10 acres) of the Richmond National Battlefield Park. The GIS project guidelines require the contractor to follow NPS Interior Region 1 Archeological GIS Guidelines, NPS Standard Guidelines, and Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) guidelines, specifically the metadata guidelines. The geophysical survey data must be recorded, processed, and imaged in both 2D and 3D formats to identify the location, depth, and extent of potential buried archeological features. The data interpretation must include all discernable archeological anomalies as well as utility, geological, and environmental anomalies. The raw and final processed data must be submitted in ASCII format for archival purposes, along with associated metadata.

APPENDIX A: GIS GUIDELINES AND GEOPHYSICAL DATA TREATMENT

GIS Project Guidelines GIS produced by the Contractor shall follow NPS Interior Region 1 Archeological GIS Guidelines, NPS Standard Guidelines, and Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) guidelines;

specifically, metadata guidelines (https://www.fgdc.gov/metadata). NPS Interior Region 1 Archeological GIS Guidelines and a metadata template form shall be provided to the Contractor no later than the startup meeting. The project GIS shall be developed by the Contractor using ArcGIS Pro. The project GIS and all related digital data (pre-and post-rectification rasters) shall be included along with all associated metadata as part of the final deliverables. Existing NPS GIS data for RICH shall be provided to the Contractor upon email request to the COR and RICH Cultural Resources POC. Rectified rasters shall be saved in a related location (not in the geodatabase) and saved to the TIF file format with LZW lossless compression (as per NPS GIS Guidelines).

Geophysical Survey Data Geophysical survey data shall be recorded, processed, and imaged (when appropriate - in three dimensions). Resulting horizontal 2D data plan maps, 2D vertical GPR profiles, and 3D models shall be interpreted to identify the location, depth, and extent of potential buried archeological features. The project shall use NAD 1983 UTM Zone 18 N coordinate system. Exported maps used as figures in reporting and presentations must be in TIF format.

Geophysical survey data plan maps shall be integrated into the project GIS.

Geophysical survey data values (MHz, nT, mS/m, Ohms) shall be represented in the GIS

(versus image values 0-255).

Data interpretation shall include all discernable archeological anomalies (from small pits, to post holes, fire hearths, ditches, burials, privies, structural foundations, etc.) regardless of their size. Anomaly interpretations shall be ranked from (highest) most likely an archeological feature to (lowest) an anomaly of interest.

The NARP template GDB provided for the GIS project contains feature classes for interpretation for each survey method as point, line, and polygon (_pt, _ln, _py). Attribute values are included to assist in recordation and interpretation.

Data interpretation shall also include discernable utility, geological, and environmental anomalies (such as water table, unconsolidated soil, stratigraphy.)

Data shall be submitted as:

o Raw data format (DZT, DAT, as appropriate etc.)

o Raw gridded composites of the entire survey area and/or sub-divided survey areas with raw data.

o Final processed data in composites of the entire survey area and/or sub-divided survey areas o GIS RASTER layers with locational information imbedded (i.e. exported from GPR software with grid coordinates.)

o Raw and final processed data shall be submitted in ASCII format for archival purposes

Associated documentation (metadata) shall accompany raw and final ASCII data files that describes the data type, sampling rates, processing.
