Attachment 01 – Specifications for UAS for Aerial Application Technology Research Unit in College Station, TX
Background and Scope
Image data collection using an unmanned aerial system (UAS) directly relates to the remote sensing component of the in‐house project “22000‐032‐00D Improved Aerial Application Technologies for Precise and Effective Delivery of Crop Production Products” in the Aerial Application Technology Research Unit at the location. High resolution UAS images and the techniques developed from this type of data will benefit not only the parent project, but other projects related to crop breeding and field phenotyping as well as plant disease and pest detection in the location. For FY23, we have two planned projects that require the timely collection of UAS images during the growing season (June‐August). Therefore, it is urgently needed to acquire the UAS as quickly as possible so that sufficient image data can still be collected for this year.
Key requirements
The UAS must be an American‐made, NDAA compliant, heavy‐lift drone. It shall be able to integrate with any third‐party payload such as imaging cameras and other detection sensors for remote sensing applications. The UAS must meet the following requirements:
1) Max payload: > 8 kg (18 lb.)
2) Max gross weight with battery and max payload: < 22 kg (55 lb.)
3) Max Air speed: > 15 m/s (32 mph)
4) Flight time: > 20 min @ 8 kg payload
5) Flight mode: Loiter, auto, position hold, auto return
6) Remote control range: > 2 km (1.2 miles)
7) Long range telemetry
8) Include 6 folding propellers, 2 spare folding propellers, and a rugged transport case
9) Include Battery Kit 1200A, 4 16H smart batteries, 1 TA3000 dual charger, 1 travel case
