1. BACKGROUND

The current condition of the tunnel entrance gates are poor and haven’t been changed in over (10) years.

Proximity to the ocean, direct sunlight, vegetation, animal droppings, rain and salt have deteriorated the condition of the gate and its appurtenances. Gates are corroded, and do not provide a good representation of the park. If gates are not changed within a short period, they will deteriorate to the point where they will not be functional, that situation could generate safety and security dangers to the staff and the public.

The tunnels do not have any source of lighting/power, or windows etc. They are completely dark even during daytime, therefore they need to be secured at all times. If the gates are not changed an important historical resource will be closed to the public.
