About this file

This is an inspection requirements document for Type V Roller Pad (P/N 11-1-2795-7) dated February 28, 2024, detailing quality control and testing specifications for the manufactured parts. The document outlines First Article Inspection requirements, materials verification, in-process inspection procedures, and end item visual inspection criteria for roller pad assemblies.

The document specifies detailed inspection parameters including dimensional requirements, surface quality standards, and defect criteria. Key requirements include examining roller pads for indentations, concavities, scrapes, sharp edges, burrs, and contamination. Lot sizes are specified as 25 units or less per contract order. The document also includes specific packaging requirements per drawing 11-1-4202, with roller pad assemblies to be stacked bottom to top in groups of four, using buffered straps and secured end blocks for transport and storage. The document is approved for public release with unlimited distribution.

TYPE V ROLLER PAD 28 FEB 2024

P/N 11-1-2795-7

INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS

First Article Inspection: One sample shall be subjected to a First Article Inspection.

The inspection shall be performed on one Completely Extruded and Machined Roller Pad Assembly. The finished part must be measured in a restrained state, similar to the restraint required to machine the roller pad holes. Ensuring straightness and flatness throughout the length of the part provides the most favorable conditions for dimensional checks.

Materials and Components: Materials shall be as specified on the following drawings.

a. Roller Pad Assembly, P/N 11-1-2795-7

b. Extrusion, Roller Pad, P/N 11-1-2796

In-process Inspection: Contractor shall provide for the random in-process inspection of each roller pad assembly to certify conformance to machining requirements.

End Item Visual Inspection: The end item, defined as a completely machined roller pad assembly, shall be examined for the following defects. Any roller pad assembly exhibiting the following characteristics shall be tagged as defective. The sample unit shall be one roller pad assembly. The lot size shall be expressed in units of twenty-five (or less per contract order) roller pad assemblies. The finding of any defect shall be cause for inspection of the lot.

a. Roller pad assemblies exhibiting indentations, concavities, scrapes, below surface scratches or any other damage caused by poor handling, improper machining practices or sub-standard quality control by the Prime Contractor which contributes to the reduction of the part value, shall be cause for part rejection.

b. Roller pad assemblies exhibiting sharp edges, burrs, or metal slivers.

c. Roller pad assemblies exhibiting coolant stains, residue, grease, oil, or general filth.

d. Marking missing, incomplete, not legible, or otherwise not as specified on the applicable drawings or in the contract.

Roller Pad Dimensional Inspection: A roller pad assembly, defined as a completely extruded and machined part, shall be inspected for conformance to P/N 11-1-2795-7 and P/N 11-1-2796. Dimensions not within the specified tolerances shall be classified as a defect. The sample part shall be one roller pad assembly. The lot size shall be twenty-five (or less per contract order) roller pad assemblies. Any roller pad assembly displaying non-conformities shall be tagged as defective. The finding of any defect shall be cause for inspection of the lot.

INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS

Extrusion, Roller Pad

a. Inspect surface texture of raw extrusion.

b. Verify the measurements in Detail "A" P/N 11-1-2796.

c. Verify the flatness across the entire width with a straight edge.

d. Verify that the outboard edge flanges and the three vertical protrusions make contact with the straight edge.

Roller Pad Assembly

a. Verify that machined dimensions are not accumulative.

b. Verify that the weld, on the riser webs, does not overlap the base of the triangular feature and does not protrude beyond the top outboard surfaces. Detail "B", Note 4.

c. Verify that the End Support, 11-1-2795-7, Find Number 8, is parallel and welded flat across the end section of P/N 11-1-2796. The Extrusion, Roller Pad (P/N 11-1-2796) end should be restrained to a flat surface (to remove with-in tolerance bow) when welding P/N 11-1-2795-7, Find Number 8 to P/N 11-1-2796.

Packaging:

a. Packaging shall be in accordance with drawing 11-1-4202.

b. Strap and block fabrication shall allow for the secure transport, and storage of Four Roller Pad Assemblies. The roller pad assemblies shall be stacked bottom to top. All straps shall be buffered, and the locations shall be skidded. The roller pad assembly end blocks shall be secured to prevent loss during shipment and storage.
