6. Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) Surgeon General (SG) requires a combined Medical Equipment Rail Kit (MERK) and hard-sided storage case manufactured by SMEED Technologies that will support both the operational use and contingency storage of the MERK. The AMC Command Surgeon General has directed the procurement of a hard-sided case that will support the MERK while in War Reserve Material (WAR) storage. The
MERK is a medical device equipment carrier used by HQ AMC/SG during exercises and real world missions for critically ill patients around the globe. The MERK provides unique functionally as it is a highly flexible system designed to carry a wide range of critical care and transport equipment while simultaneously interfacing with multiple litter systems
(stretcher or basket used to move injured patients systems). The hard-sided suitcase will serve as a housing agent for storage of MERK device providing protection for the MERK device during transport. The MERK was designed specifically for the Critical Care Air
Transport Team (CCAT) Unit Type Code assemblage, and is a replacement for the Special
Medical Equipment Extraction Device currently used by HQ AMC/SG. The MERK currently used/owned by HQ AMC/SG is no longer manufactured and is outdated based on new specialized medical equipment that has been purchased. Therefore an updated MERK along with a hard-sided case is needed to assist in patient transport and care.
