About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics file for the IonScan 600E Explosives Detection System procurement at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington. The document outlines the background and objectives for acquiring a backup explosives detection system, specifically identifying the need for one IonScan 600E Portable/Desktop Explosives Detector (Part Number 4824000E-P-1). The acquisition is driven by the NSWC Indian Head Division Explosives Detection Equipment Program, which has designated the IonScan 600E as a Mandatory Use item for proactively detecting potential explosive threats in vehicles, luggage, or packages entering the base.
The procurement is part of the Department of the Air Force Air Mobility Command's solicitation (FA462025QA964), with quotes due on 14 July 2025 at 1:00 PM PDT. The government has requested that offerors hold pricing firm until 30 September 2025 to accommodate FY25 funding. The primary goal is to ensure continuous explosives detection capabilities by maintaining a backup system that can be deployed in case of primary system malfunction, scheduled maintenance, or unexpected downtime, thereby providing a redundant layer of protection for the base.
