STATEMENT of NEED

X-RAY BLOOD IRRIADATOR

David Grant Medical Center Travis AFB, California

STATEMENT OF NEED

For

X-ray Blood Irradiator

Description: 60 MDG/MDTS – Blood Bank requires an X-ray Blood Irradiator to treat blood and blood components. The blood irradiator utilizes x-ray radiation to treat blood and blood components to prevent Graft versus Host Disease (GVH). This is important in treating immunocompromised patients such as: - Infants (particularly premature) up to 4 months of age, Intrauterine transfusion and/or neonatal exchange transfusion recipients - Congenital immunodeficiency disorders of cellular immunity (i.e., SCIO, DiGeorge) - Hematology/Oncology (hematologic malignancies or solid tumors: neuroblastomas, sarcoma, Hodgkin disease, etc.) - Peripheral blood stem cell/marrow transplantation.

The contractor will provide the following:

- Blood Irradiator to include equipment delivery and set-up by qualified technician

- Biomedical equipment technician training (3 personnel) on the inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and parts replacement

- Copy of operator’s service and maintenance manual

Specifications/Salient Characteristics:

- Machine must use X-rays, not radioactive raw material (cesium chloride) per John S.

McCain National Defense Authorization Act 2018, Section 3141

- Must have built-in cooling system to eliminate contamination and plumbing requirement

- No external water connections requirement to eliminate significant facility re-structuring

- Machine must be on wheels to avoid damaging the floor when moving during maintenance; this machine is heavy, equipment technician needs access to all sides during maintenance.

- Must be FDA-cleared machine per John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act 2018, Section 3141

- Total Weight must be less than 2,000 lbs. (within approved load/certificate)

- Power Requirement: 208-220 VAC, Single Phase 30 AMP to meet building power capability
