STATEMENT OF NEED (SON)

HEAT TREATING FURNACE

General Description of Requirements:

• General Purpose Dual Chamber Convection or Recirculating Air Type Oven for solution heat treating, aging, and annealing aluminum alloys used on aircraft.

• Meets all accountability, qualifying, instrumentation, and secure (tamper-proof) digital batch records requirement of SAE-AMS-2750, USAF/NAVAIR Technical Order 1-1A-9, and National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) - as supplied

• Commercially certified, qualified, and approved for metal heat treatment of Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Bombardier, Airbus, and Northrup Grumman aircraft

Requires Guaranteed Certified Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) Work Volume:

Lower Convection Heat 1,400°F Furnace Chamber:

• Certified TUS Work Volume: 20” Wide, 14” High, 40” Deep

• Convection oven design with high volume blower

• Meets Class 2, +/- 10°F from 200°F to 1,200°F

Upper Convection Heat 1,400°F Furnace Chamber:

• Certified TUS Work Volume: 20” Wide, 14” High, 40” Deep

• Convection oven design with high volume blower

• Meets Class 2, +/- 10°F from 200°F to 1,200°F

Recorder/Controls/Instrumentation Type:

• Digital Paperless Process Recorder with tamper-proof Batch Reporting and AMS2750 Process Monitoring software - pre-programmed for simple automatic data entry o Batch record follows AFTO Form 8 field entry requirements with irrefutable record of soak time, quench delay in a secure / tamper-proof digital or printable document o Recorder automatically tracks Thermocouple Usage, TUS, SAT and Calibration intervals Notifies operators of approaching or past due “Out of Compliance” condition Notifies operators of thermocouple usage and/or change dates o Instrumentation Type A, B, C, or D capable per TO 1-1A-9 and SAE-AMS-2750

• Independent programmable chamber temperature controllers with multiple profiles, high temperature limit controllers and END OF CYCLE / TEMPERATURE DEVIATION alarms and ALARM SILENCE button

Design and Safety Features:

• Meets National Fire Protection Association standard NFPA-86 - Ovens and Furnaces and NFPA- 70 / 79 National Electric Code / Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery o Includes full electrical schematic and complete bill of materials / list of spares o Includes Operation, Maintenance, and Calibration / Certificate Records manuals

Thermocouple (TC) Probe Sets / Certification / Features:

• Includes all necessary control and monitoring sheathed non-expandable type K TCs plus SAT type N TCs for both chambers, with spares, as a 3-year supply for commercial compliance to

SAE-AMS-2750

• TCs include engraved individual serial number and large tag to document installation date, replacement date and usage record as required for compliance to AMS2750

• All type K operation TCs include AMS2750 required N.I.S.T. traceable lot Certificate of Calibration

• All type N SAT thermocouples include AMS2750 required individual (each) Certificate of Calibration

• Wire harness for connection of TUS thermocouples to TUS recorder (SuperSystems SDS 8120)

• Dedicated and fixed SAT/TUS test ports designed into furnace construction; standardized control and recorded process thermocouple locations guarantee repeatable SAT/TUS inspections

• Manual TUS Jack Box and Switch; facilitates TUS without digital recorder, or failure of process recorder

Quench Tank:

• Quench tank shall be a steel tank, located at floor level immediately under the solution heat-treating furnace o Tank shall be fitted with locking wheels such that it can be secure underneath the furnace when not in service o Fill and drain ports and valve shall be provided for simplistic management of water level

Start-Up / On-Site Guaranteed Rapid Qualifying / Heat Treat Training / Product Support Services:

• Operators and Trainers provided with 5 days of instruction / OJT with Certificate of Completion o Includes rapid on-site qualifying and training for performing the initial / periodic TUS and SAT, and P.E.M.L. registration of instrumentation; heat treat aircraft parts within 3-4 days o Includes pyrometry records management training for 5 years demand requirement

• Set-up of Honeywell software for remote computer control and monitoring, batch printing

• Services are included in the price for locations within the continental USA

• Power Requirements: 44 KW Total, 22 KW lower chamber, 22 KW upper chamber

Removal / Installation:

• Remove and discard the current heat treating furnace

• Install new heat treating furnace o Furnish labor and material handling equipment for off-loading and placing item on foundation o Provide and install anchor bolts and nuts (if necessary) o Set and rough level the machine on its foundation (if necessary) o Level and align machine o Connect machine to the provided utilities hook-up o Provide all necessary materials, tools, gages and instrumentation necessary to perform the required tests o Provide and charge all systems with fluids in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

(if necessary) o Material and tooling required of the performance testing at Government facility (if necessary)

Utilities: Supplied as 460 / 230 / 110 Volts AC, 3 Phase, 60 Hz, 100 / 200 / 200 amp supply
