DIVISION 01 00 00 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

SECTION 01 10 00 - SUMMARY

PART 1 - GENERAL

The purpose of this project is to abate a subsidence hazard from an abandoned coal mine feature located in the roadway near 750 Valley View Place SW, Issaquah, Washington. This is a historical feature located in this residential street approximately 40 feet south of the intersection with Wildwood Boulevard SW and west of the residence at 750 Valley View Place SW.

• IS-010. In January 2025, when initially investigated, the feature consisted of a single shallow subsidence that generally spanned the width of the roadway in front of 750 Valley View Place SW in Issaquah, Washington. However, the main subsidence area was concentrated on the western side of the road. Subsequent geophysical surveys and geotechnical drilling investigations were conducted in June 2025 to further characterize the subsurface below the surface expression of the feature. A detailed feature description is provided in Section 1.1.

Maps showing the feature location are included on Plans C-1 though C-3. Work will consist of reclaiming the mine feature, as summarized in Section 1.2 and as specified herein and shown on Plans C-4 through C-11. The geophysical survey report and geotechnical drilling logs are provided as attachments following the Plans.

1.1 Mine Feature Locations, Descriptions, and Access

1.1.1 Location/Property Owner and Access

Feature IS-010 is located on Valley View Place Southwest, as noted above, in the northeast quarter of Section 33, Township 24N, Range 06E. The feature is located within the City of Issaquah (City) right-of-way.

The general access route from Seattle to the feature is shown on Plans C-1, C-2, and C-3. There is vehicle access to the site via Wildwood Boulevard SW. City permits will be required for large equipment access for the Contractor during construction.

Important: The extent, depth, and stability of historic mine workings in the project vicinity are unknown.

The area surrounding the feature may contain unstable below-grade mine workings that may be prone to sudden collapse, leading to surface subsidence or collapse that could pose a risk to construction equipment and personnel. The Contractor is responsible for all site safety and should choose construction equipment and methods accordingly.

1.1.2 Feature IS-010 Description

Feature IS-010 is composed of an approximately 44-foot-long (north-south) and 22-foot-wide (east-west), shallow (2-inch-deep) depression/subsidence in the asphalt road that spans the width of Valley View Place SW. The most pronounced/deepest area of the feature (i.e., main subsidence area) is located on the western side of the road, measuring approximately 15 feet long by 8 feet wide. The main subsidence area is up to 2 inches deep at the deepest point, measured from the top of the asphalt curb. The shallow part of the subsidence runs east-west across the entirety of Valley View Place SW and extends a few feet west of the road surface. Slopes within the subsidence vary from approximately 2 to 9 percent with the steepest slopes in the south side of the main subsidence area. The western edge of Valley View Place SW is bound by a 2- to 3-inch-tall asphalt curb that has settled and is partially buried in soil adjacent to the subsidence. West of the curb is a vegetated strip with small trees that transitions to an approximately 3.5-foot-deep drainage ditch to the south. Valley View Place SW slopes approximately 33 feet vertically from its southern terminus down to the intersection with Wildwood Boulevard SW. There are several overhead powerlines along the eastern edge of the road.
