About this file
This is an attachment detailing repair classification standards and procedures for aerospace display and camera equipment components. The document establishes work scopes and testing requirements across multiple repair categories for four primary part numbers: ACL-001A-00 (display unit), ACH-801A-00 (LPHUD), ACH-001A-00 (HVC/Camera), and ACH-802A-00 (Control Panel).
The repair classifications include: (1) No Fault Found/Could Not Duplicate/Test, Teardown & Evaluate, requiring incoming visual inspection, Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP), and environmental/ESS procedures for unverified failures; (2) LAD Minor Repair, limited to superficial component removal and replacement such as bezels and guards with ATP but no ESS testing; (3) LAD Major Repair, involving rear cover or display head assembly disassembly, internal wiring disconnection, Shop Replaceable Assembly work, and fiber optic replacement with extensive troubleshooting and ESS testing required; (4) LPHUD Minor Repair, restricted to simple repairs without projector unit disassembly, combiner work, and control panel replacement with ATP but no ESS testing; (5) LPHUD Major Repair, encompassing electronic assembly replacement, optical element repairs, and digital image source repairs with full ESS and ATP protocols; (6) Camera/Television and Control Panel repairs, classified as major when repairs occur with extensive troubleshooting and ESS/ATP testing; and (7) Beyond Economical Repair/Beyond Physical Repair determinations requiring seller notification to buyer for disposition instructions. All major repairs require environmental testing with 1-3 vibration and thermal test cycles maximum and formal sell-off processes using approved procedures.

• No Fault Found (NFF) / Could Not Duplicate (CND) / Test, Teardown, & Evaluate (TT&E) (ACL-001A-00, ACH-801A-00, ACH-001A-00, ACH-802A-00) - The NFF defined as Seller can’t duplicate the reported/inducted anomaly and TT&E defined as initial test and evaluation by Seller.
o Perform incoming visual inspection o Perform Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP)
For the LPHUD (ACH-801A-00) this process should include additional supplier-developed engineering testing developed during the power-on failure investigation o In case of unverified failure report, perform all NFF environmental and ESS procedures
• LAD Minor Repair (ACL-001A-00) - The repair is classified as Minor if any of the following or a combination occurs:
o Perform incoming ATP and evaluation o Removing / replacement of superficial components such as the TS bezel (PN), left/right bezels (103261D-00 (left), 103262D-00 (right)), bottom bezel (103263C-00), solar guard (PN), touch guards (PN) and installation screws.
• Cleaning of Fiber Optics o Adherence to guidelines in technical manual NAVAIR 01-1A-505-4
Change 1 15-August-2021 for Installation and Repair Practices for Aircraft Fiber Optic Cables (Section 8.01, Tables 1-2) o Perform additional trouble shooting if required (Vibration and Thermal Testing, 1 cycle per Seller’s approved procedure) o Perform ATP after repair (part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures) o Note: No ESS testing is required for Minor Repairs (part of formal sell-off process)
• LAD Major Repair (ACL-001A-00) - The repair is classified as Major if effort applicable to repairing item occurs in any combination of the following:
o Perform incoming ATP and evaluation o Involves opening of the Rear cover or the Display Head Assembly o Disconnections of internal wiring harnesses o Disconnection, replacement, and repair of Shop Replaceable Assemblies (SRAs) o Replacement of Fiber Optics and/or connectors.
o Perform extensive/multiple trouble shooting (Vibration and Thermal Testing, 1-3 cycles max.).
o Perform ESS – Part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures.
o Perform ATP after repair - part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures o Any combination of minor and major repairs will fall under the category of a major repair.
• LPHUD Minor Repair (ACH-801A-00) - The repair is classified as Minor if any of the following or a combination occurs:
o Perform incoming ATP and evaluation
Note: If an inducted LPHUD is found to only require repairs to the HCP (ACH-802A-00) or HVC (ACH-001A-00), the repair of those components will fall under a minor repair.
o Limited to simple repair without disassembly of the Projector Unit (PU). For example, fixing bent pins on externally accessible subassemblies Heads up Display-Control Panel (HUD-CP) (ACH-802A-00), Angle of Attack (AOA) (ACH-804A-00), HUD Video Camera (HVC) (ACH-001A-00), chassis guide pins and plunger replacements.
o Projector Unit (PU)Repairs to combiner or replacement of combiners ( WO combiner Cost ) o Limited repair to outside of the PU unit. No ESS testing required due to no seals are broken or disassembly of the PU unit o Replacement of control panel and or AOA .(WO Panel/AOA Cost) o Perform ATP after repair (part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures) o Note: No ESS testing is required for Minor Repairs (part of formal sell-off process)
• LPHUD Major Repair (ACH-801A-00) - The repair is classified as Major if effort applicable to repairing item occurs in any combination of the following:
o Perform incoming ATP and evaluation o Replacement and repair of electronic unit Assemblies/Circuit Card Assemblies
(CCAs).
o Significant repairs to optical elements/lenses o Repairs to Digital Image Source (DIS).
o Perform extensive/multiple trouble shooting (Vibration and Thermal Testing, 1-3 cycles max.)
o Perform ESS – Part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures.
o Perform ATP after repair - part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures o Any combination of minor and major repairs will fall under the category of a major repair.
• Camera, Television Repair (ACH-001A-00) - The repair is classified as Major if effort applicable to repairing item occurs in any combination of the following:
o Perform incoming ATP and evaluation o Repairs o Perform extensive/multiple trouble shooting (Vibration and Thermal Testing, 1-3 cycles max.)
o Perform ESS – Part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures.
o Perform ATP after repair - part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures
• Control Panel, AirCR Repair (ACH-802A-00) - The repair is classified as Major if effort applicable to repairing item occurs in any combination of the following:
o Perform incoming ATP and evaluation o Repair o Perform extensive/multiple trouble shooting (Vibration and Thermal Testing, 1-3 cycles max.)
o Perform ESS – Part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures.
o Perform ATP after repair - part of formal sell-off process using approved procedures
• Beyond Economical Repair (BER) / Beyond Physical Repair BPR (ACL-001A-00, ACH-801A-00, ACH-001A-00, ACH-802A-00): Seller shall electronically notify Buyer of a Unit recommended to be BER or determined to be BPR to initiate disposition instructions during T&E phase. In the event, during the repair, Seller determines the item is BER/BPR, Seller shall cease work and request Buyer’s direction for approval and disposition.
