Attachment 04_Volume II_Project Category Definitions

This category does not include general landscaping related retaining walls (i.e.

retaining walls 3 feet or less in height) or drainage systems such as French drains.

2. Electrical Generation, Distribution, and/or Transmission Lines: To meet the definition of this category the main purpose of the project must involve the installation, repair, replacement, or upgrade of electrical generation, distribution and transmission lines, ranging from 12kV to 70kV, and their associated control systems using a design prepared by a registered engineer. Tasks which may be included in this category include:

Installation of new distribution and/or transmission lines The replacement of damaged or outdated distribution or transmission lines The upgrade of existing lines to meet current safety and performance standards.

Installation, repair or capability upgrades to pole mounted transformers, substations, and large-scale power generation, For purposes of this category large scale power generation consists of permanently installed generators of 1MW or greater output, designed to service more than one facility as primary or backup power; this does not include facility level emergency power generators.

This category includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and other controls associated with the items above.

This category does not include tasks associated with typical maintenance of substations or distribution lines such as cleaning or like-for-like replacements of poles and hardware

3. Asbestos Abatement, Hazardous Material, and/or Lead-Based Paint Abatement (In California): To meet the definition of this category the project must involve the safe and e ective removal and disposal of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, and other federal, state, or county permit-requiring hazardous substances, from buildings and other structures in California. Major AT/FP compliant security features mean security features which require calculations and a design from registered engineers to ensure compliance with AT/FP regulations. Tasks which may be included in this category include:

Blast resistant windows installation Active vehicle barrier installation Tra ic check houses and entry control points installation/upgrade

These tasks may include the installation of new security features, the replacement of damaged or outdated features, and the upgrade of existing features to meet current security standards. This category would not include simplified security features such as man-bars or visual screens.

5. General Facility Renovation: To meet the definition of this category the project must involve the renovation of facilities for various purposes based upon a design prepared by a registered engineer. Tasks included in this category may include:

Dormitories, or whole building renovations Renovations changing the usage type of the facility (e.g. Industrial Support being converted to o ice space) Lightning protection system installation Seismic upgrades Potable water, non-potable water, and sewer/septic system installation, repair or upgrade.

6. Fire Suppression, Fire Alarm and/or Mass Notification Systems Repair, Replacement, Upgrade, or Installation: To meet the definition of this category the project must involve the installation, repair, replacement, or upgrade of fire suppression, fire alarm, and/or mass notification systems using a design prepared by a registered engineer and stamped by a fire protection engineer or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Level IV certified technician.

7. Electrical System Repair, Replacement, Upgrade, or Installation including Electrical Generation and/or Switchgear, Transformers, and Facility specific Generators: To meet the definition of this category the project must involve the installation, repair, replacement, or upgrade of facility level electrical systems using a design prepared by a registered engineer. Tasks included in this category may include:

Repairs, replacements or upgrades of permanently installed electrical generation (primary, backup, or emergency)

Switchgear replacement and/or upgrades Electrical panels replacement and/or upgrades

Pad-mounted transformers replacement

8. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System, including Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) Units Repair, Replacement, Upgrade, or Installation: To meet the definition of this category the project must involve the installation, repair, replacement, or upgrade of HVAC systems, including computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units, using a design prepared by a registered engineer. Types of work included in this category may include:
