About this file
This document is a project overview for the MEVE ADP Network Switch Replacement project. The goal is to replace two existing end-of-life (EOL) core network switches with Cisco Catalyst 9404-R series switches, purchased in 2025 and 2026. The replacement switches will include specific technical features such as redundant power supply, Catalyst 9400 series Supervisory Module, line cards with 48x 10/100/1000 and 24x Gigabit SFP ports, a 240 GB internal SSD, and both single-mode and multi-mode SFP mini-GBIC transceiver modules.
The justification for the project centers on maintaining network performance and security as the current switches are no longer supported by Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC). The new switches will provide the latest switching technology, ensure ongoing technical support, and address the growing network demand for the park's computer network infrastructure. Each switch purchase will include three-year coverage through Cisco SmartNet for hardware and firmware support.

MEVE ADP Network Switch Replacement
Project Title
MEVE ADP Network Switch Replacement – Procure Cisco Catalyst 9404-R Series switch.
Project Overview
The computer network for the park is designed such that all the traffic is directed through two core switches, a Cisco Catalyst 4507-E and 4503-E series. These switches reached their EOL and are up for replacement. They are no longer eligible to receive support through Cisco TAC.
The goal is the replacement of both switches with a Cisco Catalyst 9404-R series through the purchase of one switch in 2025 and the other in 2026. These purchases should include three-year coverage through
Cisco SmartNet on the product hardware and firmware.
The 9404-R should include the following features-
• Redundant power supply, power cable NEMA 5-20 connector
• Catalyst 9400 series Supervisory Module
• Catalyst 9400 series Line Card – 48X 10/100/1000 plugin module
• Catalyst 9400 series Line Card – 24X Gigabit SFP
• Cisco SSD – 240 GB – internal M.2 - SATA
• 2 Cisco SFP mini-GBIC transceiver Module – single-mode
• 8 Cisco SFP mini-GBIC transceiver Modules – multi-mode
Justification
The network switches that function at the core of the park network have reached EOL. In order to maintain the network at the current level of performance, given the growing demand, it is necessary to upgrade this equipment. This provides for maximum security and performance through the latest switching technology and allows for ongoing support through Cisco TAC as needed for problems that arise.
