Background The existing 300kVA, 13.8kV - 480Y/277V, 3 phase transformer currently servicing building C5 was manufactured and installed in 2004 and has reached its end-of-life expectancy. There is a concern that if this transformer would experience a failure in one of its internal components, that parts would be difficult to find with very long lead times.
Scope The objective of this project is for the contractor to replace the transformer feeding building 403 located on the USDA campus in Ames, Iowa. This scope of work includes:
· Verification that the existing concrete spill containment basin is of sufficient size to accommodate all the liquid inside the new transformer and 6 inches of rain.
· Removing existing transformer and properly dispose of the transformer and its fluids.
· Testing the fluid in the existing transformer for PCBs and documenting the results and the disposal of the fluids and providing the USDA with a copy of the documentation.
· Cleaning and removing any existing fluid and debris from the area around the existing transformer location before the new transformer is installed.
· That the contractor be responsible for all wiring connections, this includes disconnection of old transformer and re-connection of new one and relocation and reconnecting any grounding wires and ground loop systems around existing transformers.
· Disposing of old transformer by contractor in accordance with Federal, State, and local codes.
· Ensuring that the footprint of the new transformer will fit properly and correctly on the existing spill containment basin.
· That new transformer shall be multi-tap for potential future connection to north campus 13.2kV.
· That the contractor shall be responsible for temporary spill containment on new transformer if it is stored on campus prior to installation on the existing concrete spill containment basin and keep a written inspection record until transformer has been installed on new containment pad. This written record will be provided to the COR after the transformer is placed on the new spill containment basin. Any oil leaks shall be the responsibility of the contractor to clean up and reported to the COR immediately.
· Updating the arc flash assessment label and affixing it to the outside of the transformer. See drawings for existing arc flash label.
· Repairing any cables that have been damaged or have existing damage.
Specification of the existing transformer: 300kVA, primary voltage of 13,800 Delta, secondary 480Y/277V. See drawings for specs of new transformer. New transformer shall have a dead front configuration.
