Statement of Work
CHIMNEY INSPECTION, SWEEPING, AND CLEANING
Yosemite National Park
1. SCOPE
1.1. Yosemite National Park has a requirement for chimney inspections, sweeping, and cleaning for residential and administrative buildings located throughout the park at the districts of El Portal, Yosemite Valley, Mather, and Wawona. The purpose of this requirement is for the chimneys, fireplaces, and woodstoves to be inspected, any deficiencies noted in a written report, and the wood burning appliances and chimneys be swept and cleaned.
2. BACKGROUND
2.1. Most residential buildings have a wood burning fireplace or wood stove as a secondary source of heating. There are 128 wood burning appliances in total. All chimneys and fire boxes are cleaned annually; however, it is not known when these units were last inspected.
3. TASKS
3.1. The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials, and services needed to fulfill the requirement.
3.2. A certified contractor will sweep, clean, and inspect each of the 128 wood burning appliances and associated flue pipes and connections as a part of this contract.
3.3. Contractor personnel must be escorted by NPS staff when entering any residence or administrative building.
3.4. Repair work is not required, nor authorized, as part of this contract.
3.5. The Contractor shall:
3.5.1. Verify any measurements and site conditions prior to the commencement of work on-site.
3.5.2. Provide a written safety plan to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) for the work to be performed.
3.5.3. Perform a Level 1 chimney inspection for each of the 128 wood burning appliances and associated accessories.
3.5.4. Dispose of all wood burning byproducts outside of Yosemite National Park. The
Contractor is not authorized to dispose of byproducts in government dumpsters.

4. DELIVERABLES
4.1. Provide a written inspection report to include each of the 128 wood burning appliances and associated accessories; 1 hard copy and 1 electronic copy (thumb drive is acceptable). The inspection report must include at minimum:
4.1.1. Location, address, and building number of each appliance, notating condition.
4.1.2. If applicable, provide recommendations for any and all deficiencies, including structural cracking, flue, chimney cap, and all fireplace components.
4.1.3. Photographic documentation of all 128 wood burning appliances and associated accessories.
4.1.4. Estimates for repairs.
5. PLACE OF PERFORMANCE
5.1. On-site work will take place within the following districts at Yosemite National Park. See attachments for maps and addresses.

6. ON-SITE WORK HOURS
6.1. Work may be performed on-site between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding government holidays, except when otherwise scheduled with the COR.
7. PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
7.1. Contract performance is from date of award to October 30, 2024.
8. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
8.1. Travel Restrictions: Visit www.nps.gov to obtain the latest status and locations for road construction activities, estimated dates of construction, and estimated delays.
All vehicles are restricted to 45 feet total length on Route 140 into the park; see Caltrans website at http://www.dot.ca.gov. Restrictions and road delays must be considered part of the existing conditions within the park and will not cause for any additional compensation as a result of travel restrictions or related work.

8.2. Bear and Animal Safety: Bears and other animals are active in Yosemite and surrounding areas.
It is necessary for everyone to practice bear and animal safety. Food items are not to be left in work trucks or anywhere else. The National Park Service provides bear boxes in campgrounds for food storage. Bear incidents are a ticketable offense in Yosemite National Park.
