About this file

This document is a set of questions and answers from a bidders conference for an Assistive Technology contract with the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS). The contract, titled "Assistive Technology 2025", is part of the DDS's "Technology Forward" initiative to promote and develop assistive technology to support more inclusive and independent living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The key details include that the $3,000 per year equipment cap applies to all equipment, evaluations should be submitted within 10 days and indicate if any recommended equipment will be processed through insurance first, and DDS currently allows a 12% administrative fee on the cost of purchasing and managing equipment. The document also notes that revisions to the AT referral form are being considered to include insurance and primary care provider information, and that exceptions may be made to the 30-day delivery requirement if the insurance approval/denial process exceeds that timeframe.

The $3,000 per year limit is for all equipment.

Will the AT referral now contain Insurance and PCC info?

Revisions of the AT referral form are being considered to include Insurance and PCC information. Information can be obtained from the service coordinator.

The insurance approval/denial process can be lengthy, and it may exceed the 10 days for evaluation submission and 30-day delivery requirements, will exceptions be made?

Evaluations should still be submitted within 10 days and should indicate if any recommended equipment will be processed through insurance first.
