AC1 - 1. SCOPE OF PROJECT
Building No. 933 (Hangar 3) is a building located in Area F of the Aviano Air Base and is used by the HMU Squadron for helicopters maintenance operations and shelter. The apron in front of the building big doors (about 6,500 sqm.) is actually used for helicopters parking area and will be used also for helicopters washing operations.
Project Scope is to upgrade the apron upgrade to enable wash and rinse operations with helicopters staying on their parking positions. This implies the capability of the new system of segregating washing and rinsing waste water from storm water. This capability will be assured by installed equipment and implemented procedures.
The works include the installation of a new system for the collection and filtration of the water that will be produced by the washing operations and the installation of a further system (Oil-Water Separator and Draining Field) to treat and drain storm water coming from the apron, considering it as a parking lot for the squadron helicopters.
First of all, the cutting of the existing apron pavement is anticipated, as shown in the drawings, for the installation of the new water collecting system by concrete slot channels F900 Class. Channels diameter will be Ø400 mm. 41 slot channels 4 meter long are anticipated. The new system will be able to collect all dirty waters coming from the helicopter washing operations, as well as, storm water coming from the same portion of the apron.
The new system will be equipped with a GAC filter system composed by a quartzite tank, active carbon tank, divert flow valves, pre-cast sedimentation tank, pre-cast manholes with submersible pumps, electrical equipment, switches, cables etc. The quartzite and the active carbon tanks are installed in an insulated box.
Also a red/orange/green light signal will be installed in order to help operators in the washing activities.
Waste water coming from washing operations, after treatment, will be discharged into the main sewage line, with HDPE pipe, towards the existing manhole at the North-east of the Fac. 933 (see drawings). Works include also the installation of a new oil separator that will treat the storm water collected from the entire apron. After the treatment, the storm water will be collected and drained through a new draining field installed in the grassy area on the West side of the apron.
