About this file
This document is an Appendix B to a contract for the Lowell National Historic Site, detailing the removal and replacement of four trolley passenger platforms and track renewal in Lowell, Massachusetts. The project involves four specific platform locations: Swamp Locks Platform (Dutton Street), Mack Plaza & Platform, Moody Street Platform, and Suffolk Street Platform (Tremont Station). Key requirements include field verification of each platform's extents, materials, and access; full platform replacement with pressure-treated timber supporting structures and composite decks; and track renewal involving tie replacement, bond verification, and ballast replacement to a maximum depth of 8 inches. Additionally, a display steam locomotive at Mack Plaza will need relocation to facilitate track renewal beneath it, with the note that the static display is unlikely to move unless otherwise verified.
