About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for playground installation at Edward MacDowell Lake in Peterborough, New Hampshire, issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The SOW specifies the installation of a FunPlay Structure Layout STR-353259-G playground system designed for ages 5-12 with a capacity of 50 children, featuring a fall height of 7 feet and total weight of 1,350 pounds. The structure occupies approximately 677 square feet (actual size 15'-4" x 23'-2") with a use zone of 27'-4" x 35'-2". The installation includes multiple components: a main play structure with slides, climbing wall, ladder features, decking systems in various configurations (square, triangle, hexagon, rectangle, trapezoid), a horizontal ladder system, vertical climbing ladders, panels, risers, roof assembly, and a swing set assembly.
The SOW references detailed assembly instructions provided in Appendix B, including manufacturer specifications and installation procedures for all components manufactured by Childforms/FunPlay. Installation requirements mandate compliance with CPSC and ASTM F1487 guidelines for playground safety, shock-absorbing ground surfacing materials, proper fall zones, and site preparation standards. The contractor must follow sequential assembly procedures, use specified fasteners and hardware (primarily stainless steel bolts, washers, and nylon lock nuts), verify component quantities upon receipt, and ensure all equipment is level, plumb, and securely anchored. Concrete footings are required for support posts with specific depth and diameter specifications. The project requires contractor familiarity with specialized assembly manuals, proper tool usage (Torx drivers, hex drivers, drills), and adherence to federal playground safety standards throughout installation.

1. When assembling the clamp to the pole take the blank clamp half and the appropriate clamp half and place them around the pole. Then take (2) 5/16-18 x 1 SS Torx Head Bolt
(E) and (2) 5/16-18 Nylon Lock Nuts SS (F) and loosely bolt clamp to pole. Move Clamp to desired height and then tighten bolts which will cause the clamp to tighten to pole.
(Note: Clamp has a recessed hex pocket used as wrench for holding nuts)
2. When the clamp is being used as a load bearing clamp (i.e. decking, horizontal ladder etc.) the clamp must have two 1/4” holes drilled through the clamp and into the pole.
There is a divot in clamp to be used as drill starting point. Insert 1/4” drive pin (G) through the newly drilled hole and into the support tube. Tap pin until flush with clamp.
Repeat this process on the opposite side.

Installation procedure:
1) Begin with Base Poles (B) planted into the ground (See Footing Diagram). Install
Mounting Clamps (C) at desired height (See Clamp Assembly Instructions). Note:
Subtract deck thickness when placing clamps. (See Figure).
Installation Tip: Start with the roof covered deck.[Follow SPEC sheet for deck heights] For 48” deck heights (TYPICAL) Measure 84.5" down from the Top end of the 3.5" pipe that will be facing up. Make a line on the tube at the 84.5"inch mark. Do this to 4 tubes.
Mount and tighten the deck clamps to the 4 poles just below the 84.5 mark. This sets the deck height and lets you level while standing on the ground.
I-3.5INDECKINSTrevA.doc Page 4 of 7
Using the clamps as leveling points. Set the pole height 48" plus the surfacing depth.
I.e. 12" of surfacing + 48" deck height = 60" (Follow your SPEC sheet for deck heights)
Put a tie down strap around the three or four poles or 5 poles and tighten. This will pull the poles in tight to the decks; this also helps to stabilize while pouring the cement and assures correct widths for the panels. See next step 3 before adding cement.
2) Situate the Deck (A) onto the clamps inside the base poles and mount to clamps using (1) 5/16-18 x 2-1/4 Button Head (HA), (1) Flat Washer 1”x.4”x.07” (HC), and
(1) 5/16-18 Nylon Lock Nuts (HB). (See Figure).
3) When complete, plum and level; drill a 1/4” hole into clamp sides and into the upright post posts. Use dimple on clamp as drill guide. Insert the 1-1/2” drive pin (HD) into the freshly drilled hole and then tap it until pin is flush with clamp. (Do this to both sides of the clamp)

For any additional bays add 10’-10” in Use Zone space.
NOTE: Overhead views are for planning purposes only.
Please follow guidelines as specified by the CPSC and ASTM F1487.
Installation procedure:
1) Attach swing horizontal beam (A) to swing posts (B) by placing horizontal beam with saddle clamp around the upright post and seated on the ledge.
2) Place saddle clamp back (C) on upright post and align with saddle clamp on top rail.
Now bolt together using (6) bolts (HA), (12) washers (HB), and (6) nuts (HC).

3) Insert (2) HD drive pins in clamps by drilling a 1/4” through upright post by using pre-drilled hole in clamp as a guide. Now insert drive pin in holes and tap down with hammer.
4) When placing Posts into the ground be sure to dig (2) holes 18” diameter by 36” deep;
132” apart. [When doing multiple bays add 134” for each consecutive hole center.] Place 12” rebar though the center holes that are perpendicular to the swing. With assistance, lower the Swing set into the holes - securely prop Swing set Assembly with wood or similar temporary bracing structural material with the bottom of the Horizontal Beam. Level beam and adjust height to equal 96” (8 feet) above the finished surfacing.
[i.e. 12” of surfacing beam is placed 108” (9 feet) above grade once surfacing is installed at 12” the beam is at the correct height] Be sure Posts are plum and the horizontal beam is level. 1) Attach swing horizontal beam (A) to swing posts (B) by placing horizontal beam with saddle clamp around the upright post and seated on the ledge.
2) Place saddle clamp back (C) on (2) upright posts located on the outside of swing frame and align with saddle clamp on top rail. Interior uprights will have (2) horizontal beams, no clamp back (C) will be required. Now bolt together using (6) bolts (HA), (12) washers (HB), and (6) nuts (HC). For center upright posts horizontal beams will be bolted together using (6) bolts (HA), (12) washers (HB), and (6) nuts (HC)
3) Insert (2) drive pins in clamps by drilling a 1/4” through upright post by using pre-drilled hole in clamp as a guide. Now insert drive pin in holes and tap down with hammer.
4) When placing Posts into the ground be sure to dig (2) holes 18” diameter by 30” deep;
[i.e. 12” of surfacing beam is placed 108” (9 feet) above grade once surfacing is installed at 12” the beam is at
I-SWGSPINSTrevC Page 9 of 9 the correct height] Be sure Posts are plum and the horizontal beam is level. Mix and pour concrete into holes, leaving concrete 2” below ground level(Use a soupy mix). Let swing remain undisturbed for (3) days minimum until concrete has fully set.
5) After Swing set Frame Footers have fully set, through bolt Swing Seat Assemblies (HE/HF) using Hex Bolt and Lock Nut included in Seat Assembly (See Diagram). Tighten bolts to fully engage Lock Nuts, (NOTE: Do not bind pivot hangers, be sure pendulums swing freely)
