Response dated 1/14/09 1.) Is the Roof and Floor elevations of the Primary and Secondary Units at ground level? (The furnaces are all installed at Ground level. The Roof of the LIC Primary is access by ladder and the roof or the LIC Secondary is accessed by second floor platform.
2.) Roof Sections- Primary / Secondary Units Will the roof sections be removed entirely from these Units? They will be removed and slid aside on already installed supports.
If so, who's responsible for their removal, Contractor or ANCDF? ANCDF Who is responsible to re-attach the roof sections? ANCDF If the lids are completely removed, are the brick required to line both lids pre-cut? NO Will ANCDF provide any forms to assist in the rebricking of both lids? NO
3.) Regarding the Slag associated with the Primary and Secondary Units including the Collection Hopper located below the Secondary Unit.
What is the composition? Glass Like material containing mostly Caustic What is its appearance ie; rough like pumic or glassy such as obsidian? Green Obsidian Does it crumble away or does it require heavy jack hammering? Bring your jackhammer Based on past experience, would a Chipping Gun, Rivot Buster or 90# Jackhammer be most effective? This is the vendor’s judgment based on their experience with this type work.
Can a forklift reach the two access manways located in the Exhaust Duct. No, material will need to be hand carried.
Labor Rotation: Please reverify how many hours per man is allowed in any one of these units.
With that can a man be rotated from area to another after having met the required time limit in the initial vessel? If not, once the allotted time has been met, how long does that individual sit out?
There is no restriction on occupancy of the furnace chambers once cooled and opened.
Confined Space- It was explained in the meeting that onced the units were down, the roof sections would be rotated off. At that time, both the Primary and the Secondary units would not be considered Confined Space. Futher if the Manway covers are off the Exhaust Duct does that area become a non-Confined Space? The Ducts will be confined space but not Permit Required Confined Space after the test. The duct will have air flow supplied.
Burners- The Scope of Work descibes work on this equipment to be the responsibility of the contractor. In our meeting I believe we determined that any work required would be for others.
Burners will be removed by ANCDF.
Regarding Steel Work, I believe in our meeting it was determined that the retainer rings would need to be removed, refabricated and then installed along with the Venturi Valve. Because us along with our Steel Subcontractors cannot access the unit for a personal observation are detailed drawings available in order to fully Bid this aspect of the job?
The replacement Brick Retaining Shelves are fabricated and on site. The existing shelves will need to be taken out and new welded in. per drawings that have already been provided. The Venturi Ring will need to be rebricked IAW the drawing already provided.
