About this file

This document is an Amendment #3 Questions and Answers for RFP 2026-UWMSN-01348-RFP issued by the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a Processing Environment for astatine-211 (At-211). The solicitation requests proposals for equipment and processing capabilities related to At-211 handling, with responses required to be submitted online through ShopUW+ at https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=UWisconsin. The proposal due date is August 3, 2026. Questions regarding the solicitation should be directed to Carla Parker at carla.parker@wisc.edu.

The amendment addresses a critical clarification regarding weight limitations for the proposed equipment. In response to bidder inquiry, the University clarified that the 1,000-pound weight limit applies per individual cell rather than to the entire processing line, enabling compliance with shielding requirements for At-211 cells. The University's response confirms that achievable activities of At-211 have been calculated to accommodate the per-cell weight constraint while maintaining necessary operator safety protocols through proper cell shielding design.

Amendment # 3 Questions and Answers for 01348

1. Q: According to your response to questions there is a weight limit of 1000 pounds. Is that limitation per cell or for the whole line? If it is for the whole line, it would not allow any shielding of the cells. However, your activity requirements require shielding of the cells. Please advise if the cells should be quoted without shielding and you take over responsibility of operator safety or if you will revise the weight limitation.

A: The It is per cell.

Based on our calculations, the achievable activities of At-211 require <1 mm of Pb shielding at any practical distance, and At-211 should drive shielding calculations in these environments, as we will limit quantities of other radionuclides (e.g., Pb-212) or introduce local shielding as previously communicated to much narrower scope compatible with the environment.

2. Q: The answer to question 1 did not specify who is to provide the Capintec’s ; the UW or the vendor?

A: Our preference is for the vendor to provide..

3. Q: The answer to question 4 states “except for the ISO5 environment”. Note on page 3 of 8, the concept sketch has the ISO5 chamber as Coating. Please clarify.

A: The sketch on p3 is in error.

4. Q: On page 3 of 8, the concept sketch has the ISO5 chamber as “Sterile At-211 Dispensing”. Is decontamination of the ISO 5 Dispensing chamber by hydrogen peroxide required?

A: H2O2 is not required for decontamination.
