About this file
This is an Amendment #2 Questions and Answers document for RFP 2026-UWMSN-01348-RFP issued by the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a processing environment for astatine-211 (At-211). The document addresses clarifications regarding equipment specifications and installation requirements for the proposed system. Key specifications include provisions for Capintec dose calibrators with display and control units to be mounted and installed by vendors, a target receiving station with a feedport for bringing inactive material from the operator room into the cell, and a well counter to be located within an isolator floor well. The target receiving station height of 1508mm will be contained inside the hot cell with additional clearance to be determined. The system must not exceed a maximum weight capacity of 1000 pounds and should utilize metal-free containment enclosure materials except for the ISO5 environment, where steel with fine matte finish is acceptable.
The amendment clarifies that local shielding refers to custom configurations within the isolator environment using lead, tungsten, or other materials to provide targeted dose reduction to specific workspace areas, configured by radiochemists rather than serving as personnel protection. The wall behind the hot cell line will consist of steel studs under drywall rather than solid concrete. The containment system design was based on early manufacturer specifications, with precise clearance estimates to be finalized. Vendors are responsible for ensuring proper mounting and installation of all display and control units. Questions regarding this solicitation should be directed to Carla Parker at carla.parker@wisc.edu, with proposals due August 3, 2026, submitted through ShopUW+ at https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=UWisconsin.

Amendment # 2 Questions and Answers for 01348
1. Q: There are wells for Capintec dose calibrators requested. Are the dose calibrators and their control unit/display also scope of the supply or just the provision for the installation?
A: The vendors need to handle this to ensure that the display/screen and units are correctly mounted and installed into the system.
2. Q: The target receiving cell should have a feedport for targets. Is that feedport used to bring inactive material from the operator room into the cell?
A: Yes, that is correct.
3. Q: The target receiving station has a height of 1508mm. How much of this height is inside the hot cell? What cell height is required?
A: The drawing and dimensions included are early designs from the manufacturer of the device. All of the indicated height is inside the cell. Some clearance will be required, but precise estimates are not yet available.
4. Q: What material is accepted for the containment enclosure? 316L?
A: We prefer metal-free materials except for the ISO5 environment.
5. Q: What surface roughness is required inside the isolators?
A: See above. Where steel, a fine matte finish is desired.
6. Q: How much lead shielding is required and is there a maximum weight limitation?
A: The determining factor is not the amount of lead shielding required, but the cell's maximum allowable weight capacity. The weight shouldn’t exceed 1000 pounds.
7. Q: Is the wall behind the hot cell line a solid concrete wall?
A: No - it will be steel stud under drywall.
8. Q: Do you want to have provision for the installation of the dose calibrator and the well counter of the CRC-55tW? If yes should the well counter be located in a well or just standing inside the cell?
A: The We would like provision for the dose calibrator and the well counter, and the counter should be located in a well in the isolator floor
9. Q: Could you please explain in more detail what you mean by ‘local shielding’? Based on our understanding of the images provided, this appears to involve the separation of processes within a cell; however, it is not used to protect operating personnel, particularly in relation to Pb-212.
A: Local shielding is custom configured within the isolator environment by the radiochemist with additional lead, tungsten, or other material to provide targeted, minimally obtrusive dose reduction to relevant environments in and around the workspace
