About this file

This document is an amendment to a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Purchasing Services Department. The RFI is seeking information on data center colocation services, with a prime consideration being the proximity of the data center to the main UW-Madison campus in Madison, Wisconsin. The amendment extends the due date for responses to November 26, 2025, and provides additional clarification on the geographic scope, noting that the university is interested in hearing from suppliers outside of Wisconsin as well. The amendment also answers several questions received from potential respondents, providing details on the specific locations in Madison where connectivity would be required and clarifying that no registration or certification form is needed to respond to the RFI.

The RFI does not constitute a solicitation or offer, and responses cannot be accepted to form a binding contract. There is no information provided on pricing terms, set-asides, incumbents, funding requirements, or other financial considerations. The purpose of this RFI is solely for information and planning purposes to help the university understand the available options for data center services that meet their requirements.

AMENDMENT #1

RFI 25-102824 Request for Information – Data Center Services

Note: This amendment is for a Request for Information (RFI) and is not a bid or request for proposal.

This Request for Information (RFI) is issued solely for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Responses to the RFI will not be returned. Responses to this RFI are not an offer and cannot be accepted by the State to form a binding contract.

This amendment serves to amend the RFI in the following:

1.) The due date of the RFI responses shall be 11/26/2024 2.) Amend paragraph to read: A prime consideration for us is the proximity of the data center colocation space to the main UW-Madison campus in Madison, Wisconsin. UW Madison Research systems have historically operated within a 10-mile radius of the main campus, benefiting from low network latency, and their sensitivity to increased distance is unknown.

However, we realize that expanding our search radius beyond Madison increases the likelihood of securing the necessary space and power, potentially at reduced costs and with more sustainable energy sources. Increased distance may impose additional strain on personnel and applications. We acknowledge this trade-off and are keen to learn from your customers’ experiences in similar situations.

3.) Answer the questions received by supplier.

Number Question Answer 1 We do not have a data center in the area of Madison.

We do have one 2.5 hours from Madison. Is this something that UW would seriously consider?

We are interested in hearing from suppliers outside of Wisconsin as well.

2 Please let me know if you believe that Minnesota would be a suitable option and if you would prefer us to reconsider.

We are interested in hearing from suppliers outside of Wisconsin as well.

3 The close date is on a Sunday? No we amended to be due Tuesday, November 26th, 2025 4 Is [DOA-4183 Contractor Certification Application] the correct form that we need to supply?

No form DOA-4183 Contractor Certification Application is not the correct form. There is no registration needed to respond to the RFI. To review the RFI follow this link:

5 Wondering if you could provide where the transport would be required to go to? The physical address where it would need to be handed off from the Data Center.

1210 West Dayton St. & 432 E Campus Mall in Madison, WI.

6 I have a question regarding the circuit origination address for each of the 400Gb links. We would appreciate having this information so we can calculate an accurate cost for each of them.
