About this file

This is Amendment #1 to a Request for Bids issued by the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the purchase of an X-Ray Scattering System (2024-UWMSN-00349-RFB). The amendment revises the technical bid specifications for key system components to establish the desired performance parameters and measurement capabilities. The primary revisions address the Q-range measurement capability, flux requirements, X-ray tube specifications, detector travel distance, vacuum chamber specifications, and sample visualization capabilities. Bidders are required to submit responses online through the SciQuest platform at https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=UWisconsin. Questions regarding the solicitation should be directed to Mike Marean at mike.marean@wisc.edu. The amendment establishes that the University of Wisconsin will serve as the sole judge of research applicability for all specifications, and it permits submission of alternate specifications for consideration across multiple items.

The revised specifications detail specific technical requirements including a desired Q-range from 0.009 nm⁻¹ to 49 nm⁻¹, a high useful flux capability of at least 100 Mph/s at the sample with a maximum total flux of 500 Mph/s, a point microfocus sealed tube copper anode with 30 watts of power, a motorized detector capable of travel from 45 mm to 1.75 meters along the beam axis, a large vacuum chamber of at least 80 liters with dual-side access, and on-axis in-line sample vision with distortion-free imaging during automated distance changes. The amendment emphasizes the University's flexibility in evaluating alternate wattage, filtering methods, and instrument configurations that can achieve the minimum and maximum Q-range requirements with adequate intensity and quality.

Amendment #1

2024-UWMSN-00349-RFB

Bid Specification Revisions:

The following are revisions to the technical bid specifications. The item numbers correlate to the item number in the original bid document.

Item 1: Desired large Q-range of measurement from Qmin = 0.009 nm-1 up to Qmax ≥ 49 nm-1 with continuous Q-range of measurement and automated change of measuring settings (flux, X-ray beam size on sample and sample to detector distance) in transmission X-ray scattering measurements. Alternate specs will be considered. The UW will be the sole judge of its research applicability.

Item 4:High useful flux: capability to perform X-ray scattering measurements with a flux at sample ≥ 100 Mph/s with a max total flux of the source on sample is ≥ 500 Mph/s. Alternate specs may be considered. The UW will be the sole judge of its research applicability.
Item 7:Point microfocus sealed tube-Copper anode with power of 30 Watts (source size ≤35µm in both directions according to DIN EN 12543-5) coupled to 2D single reflection multilayer for 2D beam conditioning and good Kα filtering (or equivalent). Alternate wattage and length filtering may be considered, please provide complete specifications. UW to be the sole judge of its research applicability.

Item 10: Long-travel fully motorized detector for continuous change of sample to detector distance while keeping sample fixed capable of a distance to sample ≤ 45 mm up to ≥ 1.75 meter along the beam axis. If a smaller instrument can reach the min and max Q range with adequate intensity/quality, it may be considered. The UW will be the sole judge of its research applicability.

Item 12: Large vacuum chamber (V ≥ 80L-outside diffracted beam pipe and storage area) with ability to access both sides providing large free space around sample, ease of integration of customized sample environments. This will allow for flexibility of future expansion to add additional components for in-situ experimentation and alternate placement options in the lab.

Item 13: On-axis, in-line sample vision with no distortion when the sample to detector distance is automatically changed from SAXS to WAXS providing the ability to determine exactly where the beam is going for samples with small cross-sectional area.
