About this file

This is an Amendment #03 Questions & Answers document issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) in response to bidder inquiries regarding RFP PMAA 2027_0002 for the James M. John - Toybox Forest Habitat Improvement Project. The project involves selective tree removal and forest management to reduce overall basal area across the project site from 195 to an average of 85 BA. The contractor shall prioritize removal of White fir (ABCO), Douglas-fir (PSME), Engelmann spruce (PIEN), and Aspen (POTR5) species, targeting trees in the 8-inch to 24-inch DBH class, while preserving all live, healthy aspen and other species. CPW does not specify a minimum acceptable top size for harvested materials and will work with the awarded contractor to determine what is usable and feasible based on market conditions.

Slash management requirements mandate that pieces of wood left onsite shall be dispersed and spread to not exceed 12 inches in depth, or alternatively masticated and spread to not exceed 4 inches in depth. The amendment clarifies that while removal of POL (pieces of wood) from the project area is not required, the awarded contractor may elect to remove materials if economically viable. No minimum top size specifications were established, and rot percentages were not assessed during the initial project inventory. All other terms and conditions of RFP PMAA 2027_0002 remain unchanged.

Amendment #03 - Questions & Answers (Q&A)

RFP PMAA 2027*0002

James M John - Toybox Forest Habitat Improvement Project

A. The following questions, and the answer to each, were received:

1. Could you please clarify the utilization specifications, including the minimum acceptable top size, allowable rot percentage, and whether all

POL must be removed from the project area?

i. The Contractor shall remove trees with a preferential species target of 1.) White fir (ABCO) 2.) Douglas-fir (PSME) 2.) Engelmann spruce (PIEN) 4.) Aspen (POTR5). Live, healthy aspen and all other species shall remain. Across the project the Contractor shall reduce the overall basal area (BA) from 195 BA to an average basal area of 85 BA by removing trees in the 8” DBH class to 24” DBH class. POL does not need to be removed from site but can be if the awarded contractor has a desire for it. POL left onsite will be considered as slash and shall be dispersed and spread out so that it does not exceed 12” in depth or slash shall be masticated and spread out so that it does not exceed 4” in depth. CPW does not have a minimum top size and will work with the awarded contractor on what is usable/feasible. Rot was not assessed in the initial inventory of the project.

B. All other terms and conditions of RFP PMAA 2027*0002 remain the same.
