About this file
This document is a Question & Answer (Q&A) Amendment No. 0002 for a solicitation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for Environmental and Curing Chambers. The amendment provides clarifications to key specifications, including confirmation that the chambers will be air-cooled, have a condensing unit onboard, and be placed in a double-story high bay with over 10 ft of clearance. The chambers will have specific dimensional constraints, with a minimum size of 8'W x 10'L x 10'H and a maximum acceptable size of 10'W x 12'D x 12'H. Each chamber will have four independent walls with no shared walls, and the warehouse/laboratory space will be unconditioned in summer (approximately 90-100°F) with only heat available in winter.
The Q&A amendment addresses vendor questions about the chambers' technical specifications, space requirements, and environmental conditions. Key details include a correction of a previous height dimension error from 10" to 10', confirmation of the condensing unit's configuration, and clarification that no specific Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available for the materials to be cured in the chambers. The amendment indicates that the Requirements document has been revised to reflect these Q&A responses, and the due date for quotations has been extended to July 18th at 5:00 PM ET.

Question & Answer (Q&A) Amendment No. 0002 Environmental and Curing Chambers
Solicitation No. AMDTCRQ2501713
1. Can an MSDS be provided for the materials that NIST intends to cure in the chamber?
Answer: No. These materials range from polymers to concrete – no specific MSDS available.
2. Will these chambers be water cooled?
Answer: No. The chambers will be Air cooled. The Requirements document is revised to reflect this change.
3. Will the condensing unit be onboard or remote? If remote, how far away from the chamber? If water cooled what is the water temp?
Answer: The condensing unit shall be on board. No water cooling is applicable as the chambers will be air cooled (see question #2).
4. If the available laboratory space for the chambers is 8’W x 10’D x 10’H, what is the clearance above the chambers?
Answer: There is greater than 10 ft. of clearance above the chambers. Chambers will be placed in a double story high bay. The Requirements document is revised to reflect this change.
5. Can NIST confirm that due to the custom dimensions requested, an engineered solution will be acceptable?
Answer: These dimensions are minimum and could be larger but not to exceed an increase of 2 ft. in any one direction. Therefore, the maximum size acceptable for each chamber is 10’W x 12’D x 12’H. The Requirements document is revised to reflect this change.
6. Can NIST confirm that since the Chamber construction is to be two separate chambers, that each chamber shall have 4 independent walls with no shared wall?
Answer: Correct – two separate units. Each chamber will have independent walls and shall not share walls. The Requirements document is revised to reflect this change.
Question & Answer (Q&A) Amendment No. 0002 Environmental and Curing Chambers
Solicitation No. AMDTCRQ2501713
7. The solicitation states that the Chamber size, exterior (nominal), shall fit within available laboratory space of 8’W x 10’L x 10” H. Can NIST confirm that the Height dimension should be 10’ (feet) and not 10” (inches)?
Answer: The Requirements is revised to state that available laboratory space is equal to 8’ W x 10’ L x 10’ H. The reference of “inches” was an error and is hereby corrected. The Requirements is also revised to reflect that these dimensions are the minimum dimensions required for the chambers. The maximum space available is 10’W x 12’D x 12’H. (see question #5).
8. Can NIST confirm that the warehouse or laboratory space for where the chambers will be placed is unconditioned in the summer (approximately 90-100F ambient) and that there will have a heat source in the winter?
Answer: Correct, no air conditioning – only heat in building. The Requirements document is revised to reflect this change.
