About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the fabrication and delivery of five PLC chassis models (A through E) for the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

The SOW provides detailed design specifications, fabrication requirements, delivery schedule, and quality assurance procedures for the PLC chassis. LBNL will provide the Allen-Bradley PLC components, while the subcontractor is responsible for procuring remaining parts, assembly, wiring, and packaging of the finished units. The subcontractor must adhere to LBNL's electrical build standards and provide work instructions, test plans, and quality reporting documentation.

The delivery schedule calls for first article units of each model to be fabricated within 6-10 weeks after award, followed by production quantities over the next 6-10 weeks. LBNL will review and approve the first article units before authorizing production. The subcontractor may substitute certain parts with those listed in a provided reference document. The SOW includes drawings, schematics, and other applicable documents that the subcontractor must follow.

1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Overview

ALS-U is an upgrade project to the LBNL Advanced Light Source (ALS). The ALS is a 1.9

GeV storage ring operating at 500 mA of beam current. It is optimized to produce intense beams of soft x-rays, which offer spectroscopic contrast, nanometer-scale resolution, and broad temporal sensitivity. The ALS facility includes an accelerator complex and photon delivery system capable of providing the foundations for an upgrade to achieve world-leading soft x-ray coherent flux. The existing ALS provides a ready-made foundation, including conventional facilities, and also includes extensive beamlines (up to 40 simultaneously operating beamlines) and instrumentation, an experimental hall, computing resources, ancillary laboratories, offices, and related infrastructure to be heavily utilized in an upgrade scenario.

1.2 Description of Items

The five PLC chassis designs (Model A through Model E) are based on Allen-Bradley 5380 series CPU and 5000 series I/O modules. All chassis are of a modular three-piece design and each sub-assembly can be assembled independently. The front panel contains all PLC components, and the rear panel includes interface connectors. When assembled together, these three sub-assemblies make up one PLC chassis.
