GABION NOTES
1. Gabions shall be keyed a minimum of 1.5 feet into the bottom of existing stream if not resting on bedrock.
2. Excavation prior to gabion placement shall be limited to the minimum amount necessary to perform the work and assure a stable excavation site.
3. Material from the required excavation shall be used for required earthfill behind gabions.
4. Additional material may be needed for backfill. Material must be approved for use.
5. Backfill shall be placed at ends of gabions to form a smooth transition from gabions to original ground.
6. All angles and curves in the gabions shall be as per manufacturer's recommendation and shall provide a continuous structure.
7. Final lines and grades will be determined in the field by the NRCS Representative at the time of construction.
4. Any drain pipes encountered in the work shall be extended through the gabions using schedule 40 pipe of the same diameter. The pipe shall extend to the face of gabion wall and shall be connected to existing pipe with flexible dresser couplings secured with clamps.
5. ne-ins to existing walls may require saw cutting and/or hand work to achieve a neat, workmanlike appearance.
No gaps shall be left between existing walls and planned gabion baskets. Hand placement of field or gabion stone and bonding with Sakrete or approved equivalent may be necessary as approved by the engineer.
6. NRCS will mark limits of work in the field.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES
1. Access roads shall be restored to pre-construction condition or better.
2. All fences removed and/or damaged as a result of the contractor's operations shall be restored to a condition equal to or better than they existed before start of work.
3. Soil in locations compacted as a result of construction operations shall be loosened for a depth of 6-inches below the compacted soil layer and re-graded to blend with existing ground.
4. Provide sub-channel as shown on "[xpjcal Channel Bottom Configuration drawing.
5. While working in the stream all efforts will be made to reduce downstream impacts including keeping the excavator tracks elevated above flowing water. A diversion berm shall be established at the top of each stream access point to minimize surface water from flowing toward the stream.
6. Site access shall be off the main road and shall be in accordance with all West Virginia Department of Highways rules and guidelines.
