AG-9AC7-S-16-0058 Humbug Road Stormproofing 6/15/2016
Questions and Answers
1. Is there sufficient material on site at the pit, or do we need to bring in a crusher?
Yes, there is a sufficient quantity of aggregate material and class 3 rip rap stockpiled in the pit. Borrow material for culvert installations will need to be excavated out of the embankment at the pit, but no crusher will be needed. A sufficient quantity of outlet rip rap material for the rolling dip construction will most likely be generated on site, but can also be loaded from the government pit if needed.
2. What are the clearing limits?
No clearing limits are specified, any clearing needed would be incidental to the specific work being performed.
3. What Item is the Clearing & Grubbing paid under?
The only clearing needed would be removing overgrowth from existing roadway ditch, culvert installation, and rolling dip with lead-off ditch construction, and the payment is incidental to the pay item for the specific construction activity.
4. What compaction method is used for Item 30318? Method E seems excessive with item 30118 at method “d” For pay item 30318, compaction will be in accordance with FS supplemental spec 204.11 compaction method B (Adjust the moisture content of the material to obtain a mass that will not visibly deflect under the load of the hauling and spreading equipment. Operate compaction equipment over the full width of each layer until there is no visible evidence of further consolidation or, if when a sheepsfoot roller is used, the roller “walks out” of the layer. Make at least three complete passes).
5. Who is providing the P line?
P-Line will be the centerline of the existing road.
6. Who is providing the sampling and testing, what item will it paid under?
Sampling and testing is the responsibility of the contractor and payment is incidental to the pay item for the specific construction activity.
7. Why is there a reference to the Plasticity index for material already provided?
Ignore the plasticity index requirement. Government provided material will not require any testing.
8. Are the water sources that aren’t marked on the project map on private property?
The water sources shown on the project map are located on government land and approved to use for water drafting. The Forest Service does not have jurisdiction to approve use of water sources on private land.
9. What construction tolerance class is this project?
This work is reconstruction of an existing road, so the construction tolerance table 204-2 in FS supplemental spec 204 is not applicable.
10. Part i-SCHEDULE OF ITEMS, SECTION B, Items 60265, 18” corrugated steel pipe arch, (500 Foot) & 60275, 24” corrugated steel pipe arch (1500 Foot) call for 14 gauge. There is no 18” corrugated steel pipe arch on the project and only 1350’ of the 24” is arch pipe. The question becomes what gauge is required for the 18” & 24” round pipe?
All culverts (both 18-inch and 24-inch) will be corrugated metal pipe arches (CMPA), and will be 14 gauge. The quantities and description listed in the Schedule of Items is correct.
