Replacement of the distribution network to resolve the pressure issue.

Specific items include yard hydrants/spigots, fire hydrants.

5 CANELO ADMINSTRATIVE SITE

The site is used as government housing, engine station, and crew staging during road work and fire events.

It is served by an on‐site well.

Only potable systems are needed for site.

5 CANELO ADMINSTRATIVE SITE (continued)

Project is a complete replacement of the existing system. Task items include:

Refurbishment of the existing well with a new submersible pump.

Addition of a 10,000‐gallon bolted steel tank next to the existing tank.

Replacement of system equipment, including chlorinator, meter, and pressure tank.

Installation of a new 2” PVC fill line from the well to the tanks.

Installation of a 4” PVC distribution line from the tanks to the branches of the distribution system.

Backflow prevention, fire pump and fire fill standpipe has been included in the package.

Replacement of the distribution network to the houses, office, and barn.

Specific items include yard hydrants/spigots, and fire hydrants.

6 LAKEVIEW CAMPGROUND

We are seeking to establish a new well location for the Lakeview Campground water system. Anticipated location is near to the existing tank to limit supply line lengths.

Requires the drilling of a new well. If the well is not successful, it will need to be abandoned following State regulations. If the well is successful, additional work will be needed, including:

Installation of a solar power source and solar well pump.

Construction of a water operations shed to house chlorination equipment and riser assembly.

Connection of the well to the existing tank.

Installation of fencing and associated gates around the well, water operations shed, and tank.

Abandonment of the existing well located near the lake.

7 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

a DOES THE PIPE NEED TO BE INSPECTED BEFORE BACKFILL? Yes – please refer to Section 2510 for inspection requirements.

b DO ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES EXIST IN THE PROJECT AREAS? It is currently not anticipated, but possible. If archaeological artifacts are found, project work will need to halt until the Forest Archaeologist clears the site.

c DO ANY EXISTING LINES CONTAIN ASBESTOS (TRANSITE)? Not to our knowledge.

d DOES THE EXISTING LINE TO THE TANK, POND, AND DRINKERS NEED TO STAY IN SERVICE DURING CONSTRUCTION? The potable water system and most of the non‐ potable system can be taken out of service. The one area that will need close coordination on when it can be decommissioned is the existing 10,000 gallon tank that serves the wildlife pond. The tank must be kept in service as long as possible so as to provide water to the pond.

e DOES THE DRINKER AT CARR BARN GET REPLACED? No, the drinker remains in place ‐ the float for the drinker will be replaced as specified in the Statement of Work.

f DO WE USE COMPRESSION FITTINGS? Acceptable fittings are listed in the specifications.

g DO ALL OF THE MATERIALS NEED TO BE AMERICAN‐MADE? The FAR clauses attached to the solicitation documents outline which materials are required to be American‐ made.

h CAN THE TANK AT CARR BARN BE PLACED IN THE SAME PLACE, OR NEXT TO IT? Both options are acceptable.

i IS THE EXISTING TANK TO BE SALVAGED? No, the existing tank will be removed and disposed of off Forest Service property.

j IS THE TANK AT A CARR BARN POTABLE? The tank will need to be NSF‐61 compliant even though it is holding raw water.

k IS THERE A FLOW TEST REQUIREMENT FOR THE WELL AT CARR BARN? No.

l WHAT IF THERE IS SEDIMENT IN THE CARR BARN WELL, OR OTHER WELLS? We do not anticipate having to surge the wells or otherwise refurbish them at this time.

m WILL THE SIGN‐IN SHEET BE AVAILABLE? Yes.

7 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (continued) n DOES THE CONCRETE BELOW THE TANK AT CARR HOUSE GET REMOVED? The concrete stays.

o HOW DEEP IS THE EXISTING CARR BARN WELL? According to Arizona Department of Water Resources records, 175 feet.

p DOES THE TANK STAY IN SERVICE AT CARR HOUSE? The steel tank is not longer in service. The pressure tank will not have to remain in service during construction.

q ARE THERE TORCH REQUIREMENTS FOR FIRE DANGER? Please review the general fire plan that was supplied on www.fbo.gov. Additionally, torch cutting will be prohibited during periods of fire restrictions.

r CAN THE FENCING COME DOWN NORTH OF THE OUTBUILDING AT CARR HOUSE? Yes, the fencing (which is located approximately 2’ from the building face) can be taken down and the materials salvaged on site.

s ARE WE TRANSITIONING FROM 2” TO 4” FOR THE NEW SEWER LINE AT THE CARR HOUSE LAUNDRY? Carry the 2” line from the outlet at the building wall, and tap into the existing 4” inlet to the septic tank. We do not anticipate coring a new inlet into the tank.

t WHAT IS THE CONNECTION TO THE SEPTIC TANK IDENTIFIED AT THE CARR HOUSE OUTBUILDING? It is to connect the graywater from the laundry facility to the existing septic tank.

u WHERE IS THE ALIGNMENT OF THE NEW SUPPLY LINE FOR THE CARR HOUSE? It will be placed along the existing alignment, which follows the trail path from the house down to the well house.

v WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE NEW PRESSURE TANK AT CARR HOUSE – WILL IT FIT THROUGH THE DOOR? We will accept pressure tanks in parallel of sufficient size and quantity to match what is called out on the plan. Dimensions for the proposed tanks should be sized to allow installation through the well house door.

w IS THE WELL HOUSE BUILDING HISTORIC? Yes, however limited modifications can be made to enable access.

7 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (continued) x WHAT SIZE VEGETATION IS CONSIDERED A TREE? WILL THE FOREST SERVICE CLEAR A PATH FOR THE WATER ALIGNMENTS? The alignment/trail path will need to be brushed and cleared to an appropriate width by the Contractor. The Forest Service will coordinate with appropriate staff and observe operations to make sure we remain within NEPA parameters.

y CAN HDPE PIPE BE USED? Yes, you have the option of using HDPE (of equivalent strength) instead of PVC for cross‐county lines where joints will be limited. PVC will still need to be installed in the immediate vicinity of the Carr House and outbuildings. In addition to the base bid which assumes PVC, please provide an alternate bid that details this change.

z THE SPECIFICATIONS SAY TO INSTALL A NEW PRESSURE TANK AT CANELO – IS THIS ACCURATE? No, the well will pump directly to the tank.

aa WHERE IS THE TANK SITE AND WHERE DOES THE WATER COME FROM AT CANELO?

The new tank will be set next to the existing tank, and will receive water from the well.

bb HOW DOES THE CANELO WELL NEED TO BE ABANDONED? The well can be filled with gravel, the concrete cap removed, and natural grade restored to the area. Please note, the well is not registered with the Arizona Department of Water Resources.

cc HOW BIG IS THE CASING FOR THE CANELO WELL TO BE ABANDONED? The vertical culvert/well is 3’ in diameter and 26’ deep – water level is at 12’ below ground.

dd HOW MANY ATTEMPTS DO WE HAVE TO FIND WATER AT LAKEVIEW? One.

ee CAN PVC BE USED INSTEAD OF STAINLESS STEEL FOR THE DOWNPIPE AT THE WELL?

Yes, you have the option of using PVC instead of stainless steel for the downpipe. In addition to the base bid which assumes stainless steel, please provide an alternate bid that details this change.
