Compact each layer full width. Roll from the sides to the center, parallel to the centerline of the road.

Compact the aggregate with the following method specified:

Compaction B: Operate equipment and compact as specified in 204.11

For all compaction methods, blade the surface of each layer during the compaction operations to remove irregularities and produce a smooth, even surface.

301.06 Surface Tolerance

Delete the first paragraph and add the following:

Thickness and Width requirements:

The maximum variation from the compacted specified thickness is ½ inch. The compacted thickness shall not be below the specified thickness and the average thickness of two (2) random measurements for the road segment is within + 1/2 inch of the specified thickness.

The maximum variation from the specified width will not exceed +12 inches at any point..

301.09 Measurement.

Replace the second paragraph with the following:

Measure aggregate by cubic yard compacted in place when payment is by contract quantities.

301.10 Payment

Delete the following:

adjusted according to Subsection 106.

303 – Road Reconditioning

303a – Road reconditioning for the entire road shall consist of reshaping the travel surface from the starting point to the ending point including thru the repair areas to provide a uniform travelway from start to end. A ditch line shall be shaped as per the typical section with a minimum of two (2) foot separation from the shoulder of the road to the bottom of the ditch at a minimum of 2:1 inslope and daylighting on the back slope.

Areas of the existing ditch line have silted in and it is anticipated that the material removed can be blended into adjacent terrain/back slope and slump material can be placed/wasted on the opposite fill slope and or used in the culvert repair areas. Material placed on the fill slope shall be shaped and blended into the fill slope and contoured as necessary with a 2:1 inslope or flatter. At intersecting points with culvert inlets a minimum of a four (4) foot by four (4) foot catch basin shall be reestablished and or protected insuring that the inlet is not blocked by soil and or debris from this operation and remain functional for their intended purpose.

This pay item shall not be performed until items 1-4 are completed.

The shaping of the roadway surface, depending on conditions may require the use of a water truck to moisturize the aggregate surfacing if it is in a dry condition.

Compaction shall be accomplished by operating construction equipment across the entire surface width as work progresses.

Payment shall be for this work as described in its entirety and no separate measurements shall be made.

303.1 Road Reconditioning – Slump Removal – The slump material shall be removed and placed/wasted on the fill slope side with a 2:1 slope or flatter. The material can be used in a culvert repair area. If the material is used in a culvert repair area it shall be compacted as specified in section 209 of these special specifications. Associated brush and small trees shall be reduced in size by flattening with equipment or other measures and spread uniformly on the fill inslopes to help prevent erosion and is not to be buried.

Enough material shall be removed to provide the proper ditch separation of two (2) feet.

Inslopes and backslopes shall be 2:1 or flatter.

303.2 Road Reconditioning – Ditch Restore – Restore the ditch line as staked, to the typical section as shown in the typical sections. Excess material shall be blended into the back slope or excess material can be used in the culvert repair area. If the material is used in a culvert repair area it shall be compacted as specified in section 209 of these special specifications. Other excess material can be placed on the opposite fill slope at a 2:1 slope or flatter.

303.3 Road Reconditioning – Ditch Restore – Restore the ditch line as staked, to the typical section as shown in the typical sections. Excess material shall be blended into the back slope or excess material can be used in the culvert repair area. If the material is used in a culvert repair area it shall be compacted as specified in section 209 of these special specifications. Other excess material can be placed on the opposite fill slope at a 2:1 slope or flatter.

303.4 Road Reconditioning – Reestablish Roadway Template – Reshape the roadway template by reestablishing ditchlines with a two (2) foot separation at 2:1 inslopes and backslopes minimum. Material removed from the ditches can be used to construct the roadway embankment. Material used for the roadway embankment shall not consist of topsoil or vegetative matter.

Compaction shall be accomplished by operating construction equipment over the entire width of the constructed embankment until visual displacement ceases. Over saturated material shall be dried to a condition of optimum moisture to allow for proper compaction and construction practices. The addition of water in the case of overly dry material may be necessary.

The inslope next to the creek meander (see drawing) shall be shaped and sloped (2:1) to allow for the placement of the geo textile fabric and rip rap as described in section 251 of these special project specifications.

Payment for items 303a, 303.1-4 shall be for the work described herein and no separate measurements shall be made.

602 - Culverts and Drains

All culverts identified for removal and dispose shall be removed from NFS lands and disposed of in accordance with applicable local, state and federal regulations and or ordinances.

Each new culvert installation shall require a four (4) foot x four (4) foot catch basin be constructed on the inlet end. Culverts shall be installed as per typical drawings for culvert installation. Minimum fill over the culvert shall be one (1) foot on any point in the travelway.

Culvert locations shall installed at locations staked by the engineer in the field.

Aggregate surfacing in the area of culvert replacement and removal shall be salvaged, stockpiled prior to replacement/removal. Upon completion of culvert replacement/removal place salvaged aggregate over the repair area with uniform thickness and width.

Payment shall be for the work as described in this special project specification and schedule of items. No separate measurement shall be made.

Ensure that the final installed alignment of all pipe allows no reverse grades, and does not permit horizontal and vertical alignments to vary from a straight line drawn from center of inlet to center of outlet by more than 2 percent of pipe center length or 1.0 foot, whichever is less.
