Key to symbols used in table:

CT: Sampling and testing by contractor’s personnel identified by name on the approved contractor’s Q/C plan. Interim approval of personnel submitted will be based on specified training or experience requirements.

Final approvalwill be based on observation of work performance on the project.

FS: Sampling, testing, measuring and/or data furnished by the Forest Service.

Note: The minimum frequency shown in this table is for contractor Quality Control sampling and testing. The contractor can run additional samples over the minimum number specified in the table. These additional samples can be taken in any manner, at any time desired by the contractor. Quality assurance sampling and testing by the Forest Service may be done at any time or location.

Compaction.

Delete the first paragraph and replace it with the following:

For compaction method D, no sieve test is required.

Add the following compaction method:

(D) Layer Placement Method - (Hauling and Spreading Equipment). Place material by end dumping to the minimum depth needed for operation of spreading equipment. Level and smooth each embankment layer before placing the next layers. Operate hauling and spreading equipment uniformly over the full width of each layer. Construct a solid embankment with adequate compaction by working smaller rock and fines in with the larger rocks to fill the voids and by operating hauling and spreading equipment uniformly over the full width of each layer as the embankment is constructed.

204.13 Sloping, Shaping, and Finishing.

Delete section (d) and add the following:

(d) Finishing. For surfaced roads, parking lots, camping spurs and picnic table/fire ring pads, remove all rock larger than six (6) inches from the top six (6) inches of the subgrade. For all roads, parking lots and camping spurs finish the roadbed to be smooth and uniform, and shaped to conform to the typical sections. Remove unsuitable material from the roadbed and replace it with suitable material. Finish roadbeds to the construction tolerance class E.

Ensure that the subgrade for the roads is visibly moist during shaping and dressing. Bring low sections, holes, cracks, or depressions to grade with suitable material. Maintain proper ditch drainage.

204.14 Disposal of Unsuitable or Excess Material.

Add the following note to the table:

(2) Using compaction Method (D), AASHTO M 145, T 99, T 180, and T 310 are not required for earth embankment test methods.

204-2—Construction Tolerances:

Tolerance Class E allowable maximum deviations are:

- Roadbed width - maximum deviation shall be +1.0 foot

- Subgrade elevation - maximum deviation shall be +0.5 feet

- Centerline Alignment - maximum deviation shall be + or – 1.0 foot

- Slopes, Excavation & Embankment (% slope) – maximum deviation shall be + or – 5%

Section 301 - Untreated Aggregate Courses

301 Title Change.

Change the title to: Section 301. Aggregate Courses

301.01 Description

The Government Furnished aggregate material is in a stockpile located about thirty-five

(35) miles west of the project in Section 8 T136N R104W. The designated haul route shall not be changed except by written permission. The Contractor shall maintain haul routes to pre hauling condition or better. The haul routes shall be inspected by the

Forest Service and the Contractor prior to hauling aggregate material. The Contractor is responsible for loading, hauling, placing and compacting the aggregate required for the campground, access road and overlook road. The quantity of Aggregate Courses in the

Summary of Quantities is compacted in place on the roads, parking lots, camping spurs, trails, walkways and picnic table/fire ring pads. Loose quantity hauled, placed and compacted shall include additional material necessary to overcome the compaction effort.

The Contractor shall maintain a record of number of truck loads and amounts of aggregate hauled and supply the record to the Contracting Officers Representative

(COR).

301.03 General.

Add the following:

Request written approval by the Contracting Officers Representative (COR) of the roadbed, camping spurs, parking lots, trails, walkways and picnic table/fire ring pads a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours before placing aggregate.

301.04 Mixing and Spreading.

Delete the first sentence of the first paragraph and add the following:

Spread the aggregate in a uniform layer, with no segregation of size, and to a loose depth that will provide the required compacted thickness.

Route and distribute leveling equipment over the width and length of each layer.

03 SPS 301-1 DPG (1/08)

301.05 Compacting.

Delete the first and third paragraphs and add the following:

Compact the aggregate on the roads and parking lots using the following method:

Compaction A. Layer Placement (Hauling & Spreading Equipment)

Place aggregate by end dumping to the minimum depth needed for operation of the spreading equipment. Adjust the moisture content of the aggregate to obtain a mass that will not visibly deflect under the load of the hauling and spreading equipment. Compact the aggregate on the roads and parking lot by operating spreading and hauling equipment over the full width of each layer of the aggregate.

For the compaction method, blade the surfaces of each layer during the compaction operations to remove irregularities and produce a smooth surface.

301.06 Surface Tolerance.

Delete the first paragraph and add the following:

Thickness and Width requirements:

The maximum variation from the compacted specified thickness is one (1) inch. The compacted thickness shall not be below the specified thickness and the average thickness of four (4) random measurements for the road segment, camping spurs, parking lots or picnic table/fire ring pads is within + 1 inch of the specified thickness.

The maximum variation from the specified width will not exceed +12 inches at any point.

301.08 Acceptance.

Delete subsections (a) and (b)

301.09 Measurement.

The quantity of 301 in the Schedule of Items is compacted in place on the roadways, camping spurs, parking lots, trails, walkways and picnic table/fire ring pads. Loose quantity loaded, hauled, placed and compacted shall include such additional material necessary to overcome the compaction factor. Contractor shall take precautions in loading of aggregate from stockpiles to prevent segregation of material.

SECTION 301 (A) & (B) - AGGREGATE HAULING

301.A & B Description

This item is for the loading and hauling of aggregate from a stockpile located in Section 35

T137N R101W about 5 miles from the disposal pit and from a stockpile located in Section

35 T139N R102W about 16 miles from the disposal pit.

The Contractor shall maintain a record of number of truck loads and amounts of aggregate hauled and supply the records to the Contracting Officers Representative

(COR).

301.A General

Site one (1) is approximately five (5) miles northeast of the disposal pit in Section 10

T136N R102W and is located in the SW ¼ SW ¼ of Section 35 T137N R101W just off the south side of the Forest Service Route #769. The Contractor shall load, haul and dump about two hundred sixty (260) cubic yards from this site.

301.B General

Site two (2) is approximately sixteen (16) miles north of the disposal pit and is located in the NE ¼ NE ¼ of Section 35 T139N R102W just off the north side of Forest Highway 3

(FH-3). The Contractor shall load, haul and dump about three hundred sixty (360) cubic yards from this site.

The Contractor shall remove all the aggregate from the two (2) sites and repair any disturbance to the areas.
