The chipper is expected to work in tight canopies, where spacing of leave trees range from 8’ x 8’ through 24’ x 24’, and in steep rocky terrain. Chipper shall be equipped with an automatic oscillating discharge chute that will operate a minimum of 180 degrees horizontally. Manually operated discharge chutes are unacceptable methods of dispersing chips and will not be allowed. Disc or drum chippers are both acceptable types of chippers. Chip size shall be less than 2” in width and length.

Equipment The use of skidders, loaders, skid steer loaders, or other like equipment shall not be used to move, haul or push slash to the chipper.

Two slash piles per acre shall be left for wildlife purposes. Wildlife piles shall be less than 8’ in diameter and 8’ in height, and shall not be located within 75’ of the highway or within 200’ of another slash pile. All other piles located within the boundaries shall be chipped to meet the Technical Specifications.

If the chipper is unable to reach a slash pile due to terrain, rock outcroppings, or standing trees, the pile shall be moved manually to the chipper for disposal.

The contractor shall chip all material in slash piles less than 8” DIB. Larger pieces are not required to be chipped. All material or chunks not chipped shall be limbed and resulting slash shall be chipped.
