Refer to Section 02020 for demolition details.

b. Any sludge, grit, debris, ect that is found in the bottom of the wet well will have to be removed and deposited by the Contractor into the lagoon or as instructed by the Contracting Officer.

6. All electrical, instrumentation, and control connections must be scheduled and coordinated with the Owner at least 14 days in advance and made within the minimum time possible. This work must be completed prior to placing the new/modified facilities into service. Service continuity must be maintained except for brief outages for cut-overs.

7. All excavation and/or trenching work must be completed in such a way so as to maintain vehicular access to all portions of the plant site at all times.

E. Miscellaneous Piping Connections: All piping connection work shall be planned and coordinated with the Owner and Engineer as specified hereinbefore and shall be performed during a time of the day when influent wastewater or sludge flows are expected to be at a minimum. In general, the Contractor shall work continuously to make these connections and construct all necessary thrust blocks in the minimum time. Temporary thrust restraints shall be provided by the Contractor and high early strength concrete shall be used for all connections required by the Owner to be placed back in service immediately. The temporary thrust restraints shall be left in place until the thrust block concrete has reached its design strength.

1.07 TRANSFER PUMPING

A. Transfer pumping of wastewater from the lagoon into the existing wet well be necessary as part of the modifications to the existing facilities. The wastewater lagoon must be pumped down sufficiently (~6 feet) in order to make the tie-in to the influent line in the wet well. By transfer pumping from the lagoon into the wet well, the existing pumps can be used to pump lagoon volume up the 4-inch force main.

B. The Contractor shall supply transfer pumping equipment, piping and fittings capable of pumping no more than of 80 gpm, which is the capacity of the existing lift station pumps. The Contractor shall provide a power source for pumping operations. The Contractor is required to check on the transfer pumps and existing pumping equipment a minimum of every 45 minutes while the pumps are transferring to ensure that the existing wet well is not backing up. Transfer pumping may be stopped and restarted over multiple shifts should it be advantageous to the Contractor.

1. The influent line invert in the existing lift station wet well is similar to the water surface elevation in the aeration lagoon. Therefore, transfer pumping would only require that the water surface be brought down far enough to provide time to perform the work. It can be roughly estimated that at an 80 gpm pumping rate with a 13 gpm average influent flow, every foot of drop in the lagoon will take approximately 26 hours to pump down. At 13 gpm, it is expected that the level will rise 1 foot in approximately 133 hours.

C. The Contractor shall submit a Transfer Pumping Plan prior to beginning transfer pumping operations. Transfer pumping shall not be performed

April 19, 2016 without approval of the Contracting Officer. The Plan shall include, at a minimum, the following information:

2. Pump manufacturer, pump type, and motor horsepower of pump to be used and generator information. Sound levels from the generator and pumping equipment shall be no more than 69 dBA at 30 feet.

3. Type of temporary piping and fittings to be used.

4. Temporary pipe routing through construction area. Include any pipe supports required.

5. Mode of inlet and outlet piping support within existing structures.

6. Anticipated number of days, hours of operation and number of personnel dedicated to pumping operations.

1.08 SCHEDULING OF WORK

A. Modifications to Existing Facilities:

1. Where existing facilities are to be modified during the course of work, obtain the Contracting Officer’s review and acceptance of submittals for temporary shutdown and temporary water supply, demolition, modification, corrections between new and existing work, and other related work. Conform to other sections as applicable.

2. Connections to existing services or utilities, or other work that requires the temporary shutdown and/or bypass pumping of any existing operations of utilities shall be planned in detail with appropriate scheduling of the work and coordinated with the Contracting Officer. The schedule for shutdown or restart shall be given by written advance notice in order that the Contracting Officer may witness the shutdown, tie-in, and startup.

3. All materials and equipment (including emergency equipment) necessary to expedite tie-ins shall be on hand prior to the shutdown of existing services or utilities.

4. Unless otherwise specified or indicated, Contractor shall make all necessary connections to existing facilities including manholes, structures, pipelines, and utilities such as gas and electric. In each case, Contractor shall obtain permission from the Contracting Officer or the owning utility prior to undertaking connections.

Contractors shall protect facilities against deleterious substances and damage.

5. Connections to existing facilities which are in service shall be thoroughly planned in advance, and all required equipment, materials, and labor shall be on hand at the time of undertaking the connections. All equipment, materials, and labor that the Contractor plans to have available shall be coordinated with the Contracting Officer in order to ensure the work is done in the minimum amount of time.

B. Time of Work:

1. Working hours for the Contractor shall be limited to the hours between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and shall not exceed 10 hours per day with authorized overtime. The Contractor must obtain approval from the Contracting Officer for any alternate work schedule.
