INSTALLATION OF ROADWAY LED LIGHT FIXTURES AND PAINTING OF ROADWAY LIGHT POLES

A. INSTALLATION OF ROADWAY LED LIGHT FIXTURES

It is required to provide and install 36 LED light fixtures on 33 poles. Fixture shall be a minimum of 140 watts which typically is a 3 panel square fixture. Fixture shall be manufactured for outdoor usage, 120/277 volts. Fixture shall be a Cooper, model #NAV AA 03 E UNV T3 10K PER AP, or equal and the photocell shall be an Intermatic, model #EK4536, or equal. Light panels and photocells shall be included. Existing fixtures to be removed are 400 watt. Contractor shall dispose of fixtures removed. All tools, labor, material, equipment, etc. shall be provided to accomplish this work. Contractor shall be responsible for verifying that new fixtures can be properly and securely mounted to existing pole arms.

Submittals: Literature shall be provided on fixture and photocell for approval.

Coordination of Work: The installation and power shut downs for this work shall be coordinated with owner.

B. PAINTING OF ROADWAY POLES

It is required to paint 33 exterior parking and driveway light poles, as shown on the drawing, in the main office/laboratory complex.

The surface of the poles is galvanized under the white paint. All the poles except one have been painted white previously although the poles are currently in varying degrees of white paint coverage. Preparation of the surfaces is critical to getting good adhesion whether it be for areas where there is currently just a galvanized surface or a painted surface. This shall be done by one of the following methods:

1. Mechanical scraping: This shall be done such that all loose paint is removed by scraping on the surfaces to be painted with proper paint removal tools.

2. Pressure washing: Power (pressure) wash all surfaces to be painted using a unit capable of producing a minimum of 3000 psi. Nozzle of power washer shall be held 8” to 18” from the surface to be prepared. Mechanically clean those areas if after power washing substances remain which are detrimental to proper adhesion of paint.

Quality Assurance: Provide primers and other undercoat paint produced by same manufacturer as finish coats. Use only thinners approved by paint manufacturer, and use only within recommended limits.

Submittals: Submit manufacturer’s technical information including paint label analysis and application instructions for each material proposed for use.

Application: Apply paint in accordance with manufacturer’s directions. Use applicators and techniques best suited for substrate and type of material being applied. If spraying, protect surfaces not to be a painted from overspray. Do not spray paint when wind direction could blow paint onto nearby vehicles or buildings.

Provide the following paint system, or equal on new and existing substrates, as indicated:

Prime Coat: S-W, Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Universal Primer (1 Coat)

Top Coat: S-W, Sher-Cryl HPA high performance acrylic (2 Coats)

Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products which may be incorporated in the work include, but are not limited to the following:

Devoe
Glidden
Moore(Benjamin Moore)
Pittsburgh
P & L (Pratt & Lambert)
Iowa

Note: Use of manufacturer’s product name is for the purpose of identifying characteristics and quality of materials sought for each system, and is not intended to prohibit the use of equal products of other manufacturers.

Toilet: Contractor shall provide their own toilet facilities for their personnel.

Utilities: As mutually agreed upon between the Contractor and the COR, the Contractor may use nearby utilities required for his performance under this contract. Contractor shall bear the cost of temporary connections (if necessary) and restoration upon conclusion of use. The Government shall bear the cost of reasonable utility consumption. Government will not pay the cost of utilities if usage is abused. Contractor shall make a request one day in advance for the need to turn off power to lighting.

Material Receiving: Contractor shall be on-site to receive materials. Contractor shall arrange for own storage of materials unless other arrangements have been agreed to by owner.

Completion Date: All of this work shall be completed by May 6.

See drawing for location of lights.
