SECTION 107 – Legal Relations and Responsibility to the Public
107.10 (C) Dirt, Plant and Foreign Material
The following supplements apply:
Notify the CO in writing at least 5 days before moving any construction equipment onto National Forest System lands. Construction equipment does not include cars, pickup trucks, and other vehicles that regularly travel between the construction site and areas outside of National Forest System lands.
Perform all work at a location designated on the plans or other locations approved in writing.
Provide the CO with an opportunity to monitor the washing and inspection. Use a high pressure washing system.
For work on National Forest System lands, use a washing system that traps all wash water and either stores it for removal from National Forest System lands or recycles the water for continued use. If the equipment recycles the water, provide adequate filters for seed removal. Dispose of the filter material and removed seeds in an approved manner. Do not mix soaps, detergents, or other chemicals with the wash water.
For work at a commercial washing facility, use an approved facility.
Wash the sides, tops, and undercarriages of all construction equipment. Remove all seeds, plants, plant fragments, dirt, and debris from the construction equipment.
Inspect the washed construction equipment, including the undercarriage, to ensure that the washing removed the dirt, debris, and seeds from the construction equipment. Rewash the construction equipment as necessary or as directed.

Do not place the mixture in a layer exceeding 6 inches in compacted thickness. When more than one layer is necessary, compact each layer according to Subsection 308.05(a) before placing the next layer.
(b) Bedding and backfill aggregate. Place and shape the mixture in layers that, when compacted, do not exceed 6 inches in depth.
302.05 Compacting and Finishing Crushed Aggregate.
Delete and add the following:
(a) Roadway aggregate. Compact using the methods below, specified in the Schedule of Items.
(1) Method 1. Operate equipment over the full width of spread aggregate.
(2) Method 2. Compact the aggregate by operating compaction equipment over the total width until visible deformation ceases. A minimum of three complete roller passes shall be made at a moisture content suitable for compaction.
(b) Bedding and backfill aggregate. Compact in 6 inch lifts by using a Forest Service approved mechanical compactor until no visible deformation is observed over the entire area of aggregate.
302.06 Acceptance. Crushed aggregate will be evaluated under Subsections 106.02 and 106.03.
Furnish a production certification including gradation and quality properties for each source.
Construction of roadway aggregate courses will be evaluated under Subsections 106.02 and
106.04. Method 2 compaction will be evaluated under Section 106.04.
Placement of bedding and backfill aggregate will be evaluated under Subsection 106.02 and Section 209.
Preparation of the surfaces on which crushed aggregate is placed will be evaluated under Section 303 and 209 as applicable.
All materials for aggregate base shall conform to the requirements of the 2004 (MSSHC), Section 304, for Type 5 Aggregate. Prior to use of materials, the contractor shall submit the current MODOT source approval letter to the COR for the materials proposed for use during construction. Source approval granted for “all types of highway construction” (Product Code 1005CACP) constitutes approval for all uses.
Measurement
302.07 Measure the Section 302 items listed in the bid schedule according to Subsection 109.02 and the following as applicable.
Measure crushed aggregate by the Ton as certified from the quarry.
Payment
308.08 The accepted quantities will be paid at the contract price per unit of measurement for the Section 302 pay item listed in the bid schedule. Payment will be full compensation for the work prescribed in this Section. See Subsection 109.05.
Section 303 - Road Reconditioning Delete Section 303 in its entirety and replace with the following.
Description
303.01 This work consists of reconditioning ditches, shoulders, roadbeds, parking areas, turnouts, approach road intersections, cattleguards, asphalt surfaces and aggregate surfaces.
Construct outslopes, clean and maintain all roadbed drainage structures.
Material
303.02 Conform to the following Subsection:
Water 725.01
Construction Requirements
303.03 Ditch Reconditioning. Remove all slide material, sediment, vegetation, and other debris from the existing ditches and culvert inlets and outlets. Reshape ditches and culvert inlets and outlets to achieve positive drainage and a uniform ditch width, depth, and grade. Dispose of waste as directed by the COR.
303.04 Shoulder Reconditioning. Repair soft and unstable areas according to Subsection 204.07.
Remove all slide material, vegetation, and other debris from existing shoulders including shoulders of parking areas, turnouts, and other widened areas. Dispose of waste as directed by the COR.
303.05 Roadbed Reconditioning Repair soft and unstable areas according to Subsection 204.07.
Remove all organic, deleterious material larger than 6 inches from the top 6 inches of subgrade. Dispose of waste as directed by the COR. Scarify, rip and shape the traveled way and shoulders. Remove surface irregularities and shape to provide a uniform surface.
Dispose of rock larger than 4 inches brought to the surface during scarification.
For portions of roads not requiring scarification, the roadbed may contain rocks larger than 4 inches provided they do not extend above the finished roadbed surface. Reduce in place or remove rock extending above the finished roadbed surface. Dispose of removed rock as directed by the COR.
