Trail Log – Great Wall Trail, Panthertown Area
Base Bid Section : Starting at intersection with Big Green trail (Sta. 0+00) and ending where trail turns right and continues parallel to creek (Sta. 21+20).
Optional Item Section: Starting where trail turns right and continues parallel to creek (Sta.
21+20) and ending at junction with Deep Gap trail (Sta. 90+19).
Inspection Date: Jan. 26, 2010 Inspector Name: Bruce Lowe, Dwayne Stutzman, Eric Johnson Length: 1.7 miles (Base Bid = 0.4 miles, Optional Item = 1.3 miles)
Trail Class: TC 3 Designed Use: Hiking to Station 67+45; Hike/Bike /Horse beyond this point, to Station 90+19 Average Width: 3’ Surface: Native
General: The start of the trail is at a gap and intersection with the Big Green trail. The trail goes downhill through a cove. The trail is in poor condition throughout. In the cove section it is steep and needs extensive tread work, drainage improvements, and steps. In the section along the river, it is wet and tread must be restored to provide proper drainage. Overall, the trail needs clearing, root removal, drainage improvements and cleaning of all existing grade dips.
The trail log calls for some armoring of approaches at water crossings, however not all water crossings require armoring. In areas where stream banks consist of cobbles, stone and/or sandy soils, no armoring will be required. Water crossings with mucky areas (high in organics content) may require armoring. Locations of armoring shall be coordinated with Inspector and/or COR.
There will be some on-site materials, within the previously disturbed trail-way, that can be used for restoring, filling and raising tread (pulling in berms, etc.) however it is expected that additional, imported suitable soil materials will be required in some areas.
The trail logs illustrate some of the items of work to be accomplished. The intent of the logs is to give a description of the work, at a minimum; however they do not describe the full scope of the work nor identify every work item.
