Pre-Bid Meeting Notes
A Pre-Bid meeting was held June 29, 2010. Three contractors attended:
Colwell Construction, Blairsville GA
ShepCo Paving, Lithonia GA
Reeves Construction, Toccoa GA
Questions and Answers:
1. Can the pay item for asphalt overlay be changed to “Ton” rather than “Linear Feet”?
No. The Forest Service considered making the change, but has decided to keep the method of measurement as linear feet.
2. What is the tolerance for asphalt thickness?
Refer to the Forest Service Supplemental Specifications, section 301.06, Surface Tolerance.
3. Is paving to be done directly over #57 stone?
Use #57 stone for bidding. It may be changed after award.
4. What is the schedule for traffic control?
The base bid section from BOP to 38+00 in on Forest land and may be kept closed during the day. The additive sections have adjoining private property so contractor shall allow for access to the properties. See FP-03 section 156 on maintaining roadways and traffic control.
5. How many trees are marked for cutting?
There are 277 trees to be sold to the contractor under the Removal Permit.
6. Must all those trees be removed?
Refer to section H, page 7. Trees may be felled away from the road and shoulders, but all slash and limbs must be cut to lie not more than 2 feet above ground level.
6. Who are possible loggers for removing the purchased trees?
See list below. This is not an endorsement by the Forest Service to use any particular logger.
