National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment Review and Repair all Fire Dampers HPRL #4
Ames, IA (NLAE) June 2017
Statement of Work:
1. Project generally consists of testing and inspecting fire dampers, replacing fusible links and removing all 1-hr fire barrier dampers at United States Department of Agriculture, National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment building (NLAE) (see Attachment A – NLAE existing fire damper locations).

3. The Contractor shall provide all labor, tools, materials, equipment, supplies, transportation, utilities, supervision, and incidentals for all work.
4. Contractor shall coordinate all work activities with the owner’s representative prior to beginning any work. All work shall be scheduled in a manner such that on-going research is not impacted negatively. Normal working hours are from 7:30am until 4:30pm Monday thru Friday, excluding Federal holidays. Work outside of normal hours must be approved by the Contracting Officer. All submittals shall be submitted, received and returned to the contractor, by Owner’s representative prior to commencement of work.
5. The qualified contractor will perform this work in a safe manner by personnel wearing proper personal protective equipment.
6. Scope of work (Base Bid):
• Test and inspect 208 existing fire, smoke and combination fire/smoke dampers in accordance with NFPA 80. See Attachment B - Damper Schedule for location and size/type of existing dampers. Inspections and testing shall be documented indicating the location of the fire damper, date of inspection, name of inspector and any deficiencies discovered. Remove any temporary components (wood and/or mailto:Patrick.Quance@ars.usda.gov mailto:Jerry.Hatfield@ars.usda.gov wire supports) currently holding dampers in an open position. The contractor shall have a variety of fusible links and wire immediately available to correct any discrepancies on the spot. Remove existing fusible link and install new fusible link as necessary. Match temperature rating and size of existing device. If a discrepancy is found that cannot be corrected on the spot, including missing dampers, the contractor shall document the issue with their recommendation and cost to correct it in order to ensure compliance.
• Remove all existing (100) 1-hr fire dampers and modify ductwork as necessary.
Bid Option 1:
• Contractor shall provide pricing to tag locations of all damper locations below the drop ceiling tile. Tags shall consist of white background with red lettering indicating damper ID as listed on the attached Damper Schedule (Attachment B).
Bid Option 2:
• Contractor shall provide pricing to update existing floorplan drawings showing fire damper locations (all existing 1-hr fire dampers will be removed). Drawings are to be provided in pdf format.
7. All Contractor personnel shall request access from the South Lobby doors at the start of each workday during the period of the contract. All Contractor personnel shall sign in on the visitor log sheet at the beginning of each work day and shall sign out at the end of each individual’s work day. The LM shall issue one or more access badges (card keys) as necessary for Contractor personnel to enter the areas in which work is to be performed that day. All issued badges (card keys) must be returned at the end of each work day. Others may visit the site with permission of the LM and shall also sign in and out in the visitor log. The LM shall be informed of all suspected unauthorized visitors.
