SECTION 01025

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Measurement and payment for contract work will be made only for and under those pay items included in the Schedule of Items. All other work, labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary to successfully complete the project will be considered as included in the payment for items shown. This section defines the method of measurements and basis of payment for work items listed in the Schedule of Items.

B. When more than one class, size, type, thickness, etc. is specified in the Schedule of Items for any pay item, suffixes will be added to the item number to differentiate between the pay items.

C. Not all units and measurement methods may be used under this Contract.

1.2 DETERMINATION OF QUANTITIES

A. The following measurements and calculations shall be used to determine contract quantities for payment.

1. For individual construction items, longitudinal and lateral measurements for area computation shall be made horizontally or corrected to horizontal measurement unless otherwise specified. Measurements for geotextiles, netting, and erosion control blankets shall be along slope lines.

2. For excavation or embankment volume, the average end area method shall be used to compute volumes. However, if in the judgment of the Contracting Officer (CO), the average end area method is impractical, measurement shall be made by volume in hauling vehicles or by other three-dimensional methods.

3. For structures they shall be measured according to neat lines shown on the Drawings or as altered by the CO, in writing, to fit field conditions.

4. For items that are measured by the linear foot, such as pipe culverts, fencing, guardrail, piping, utilities, and underdrains, measurement shall be made parallel to the base of foundation upon which the structures are placed.

5. For aggregates weighed for payment, the tonnage shall not be adjusted for moisture content, unless otherwise provided for.

6. For standard manufactured items (such as fence, wire, plates, rolled shapes, pipe conduits) identified by gauge, weight, section dimensions, and so forth, such identifications shall be considered the nominal weights or dimensions. Unless controlled by tolerances in cited specifications, manufacturer's tolerances shall be accepted.

B. Earthwork Tolerances - Adjustments of horizontal or vertical alignment, within the tolerances specified in this contract, or shifts of balance points up to 100 feet shall be made by the contractor as necessary to produce the designed sections and to balance earthwork. Such adjustments shall not be considered as "Changes."

December 18, 2009 Prospect RS 6-ReRoofs 01025 - 2/3

c. As a result of the Contractor submitting to the CO a written request showing evidence of errors in the original design that cause a pay item quantity to change by 15 percent or more. The evidence must be verifiable and consist of calculations, drawings, or other data that show how the designed quantity is believed to be in error.

3. LUMP SUM QUANTITIES (LSQ) - These quantities denote one complete unit of work as required by or described in the contract, including necessary materials, equipment, and labor to complete the job. They shall not be measured.

4. Finish: Polyvinyl fluoride (PVF2) 70% Kynar 500, Hylar 5000 resin coating 0.2 mil corrosion resistant primer. 0.8 mil PVF2 = 1.0 mil dry film thickness.
B. Accessories
a. Sheet metal flashings, trim, closure strips, caps and other similar sheet metal accessories used in conjunction with preformed metal panels shall be of the same material, finish, and manufacturer as used for the panels. All flashings shall work as a System with roof panels to provide weather proof seal.
b. Ridge, eave, and rake trim: Use Bruce and Dana, Inc. or approved equal
C. Concealed fasteners
1. Ultra Z low profile pancake head. Electro Zinc - Carbon Steel fasteners. #12 x1 bugle screw for wood applications. Pan-head, 9/16” screws for eave overhangs.
D. Exposed fasteners
1. Electro Zinc - Carbon Steel, Painted Hex head with neoprene washer. #12 x 2 woodfast for wood applications.
E. Underlayment
1. 30 lb ASTM felt
F. Roof pipe jacks
1. 26 gauge galvanized metal with rubber boot sized to fit pipe or conduit, color brown.
3. PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 REMOVAL OF EXISTING ROOFING MATERIALS
A. Remove and dispose of all existing roof materials including all trim, flashing, fasteners, felt, etc. All removed roofing materials shall become the property of the contractor and shall be removed from National Forest Land, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
3.2 ROOF SHEATHING
A. Install sheathing in accordance with section 06100.
3.3 PREPARATION
A. Substrate to receive roofing shall be plumb and true, clean, even, smooth, as dry as possible and free from defects and projections, which might affect the installation. Contractor must obtain written approval from CO for installed roof sheathing prior to installation of roofing materials.
3.4 UNDERLAYMENT
A. Install felt horizontal to eave with minimum 2” overlap of each row. Provide ice dam for first 36” layer.
3.5 ROOF PANELS
A. Apply panel with the standing seam parallel to the slope of the roof. Provide panels in full lengths, with no transverse joints except at the junction or ventilators, curbs, translucent panels, and similar openings. Install flashing to assure positive water drainage away from penetrations. Flash and seal at the ridge, eaves, rakes, and adjoining vertical wall surfaces.
B. Closing off ridge line: All roofing panels terminating under a flashing: i.e.: ridge, clearstory, endwall, shall have the last 1” of the pan area bent up at a 90 degree angle. This shall be accomplished by making a 1” cut in the pan as close to the vertical seam as possible. Then using the factory supplied endbender or equal, bend the entire 1”x12 pan area upward. Flexo seal or equal shall be used to seal both cut areas, causing a watertight pan.
C. Provide minimum 1” fasteners: 2 at eave and 16” on center after that. Use 9/16” pan-head screws in overhangs at eaves; assure no penetration through eave sheathing.
3.6 FLASHING
A. All flashing and related accessories in connection with the preformed metal panels shall be provided as indicated and as necessary to provide a weather-tight installation.
B. Provide inverted “vee” type cricket flashing for all roof penetrations subject to damage from sliding snow loads.
C. Fastener spacing shall be in accordance with the panel manufacturer’s recommendations and as necessary to withstand the design loads indicated. Drive exposed penetrating type washers properly and drive so as not to damage factory applied coating. Exercise extreme care in drilling pilot holes for fastenings to keep drills perpendicular and centered. After drilling, remove metal filings and burrs from holes prior to installing fasteners. Fasteners shall not exceed that recommended by the manufacturer. Remove panels deformed or otherwise damaged by over-torqued fastenings, and provide new panels.
3.7 RAINGUTTERS
A. Lower all raingutters approximately 4” to allow sliding snow to clear gutters.
3.8 CLEANING AND TOUCH UP
A. Clean all exposed sheet metal work at completion of installation. Remove metal shavings, filings, nails, bolts, and wires from roofs on completion to prevent discoloration and harm to the panels and flashings. Remove grease and oil film, excess sealant handling marks, contamination from steel wool, fittings and drilling debris and scrub the work clean. All exposed metal surfaces shall be free of dents, creases, scratch marks.
B. Clean all rain gutters and downspouts.
C. Use magnetic pick-up tool to clean minimum area to 10 foot from around building.
D. Touch-up all scraped or scratched areas with manufacturer’s supplied paint. Apply paint only to scraped or scratched areas of roof panels.
