203.04 Removing Material

Replace this section with the following:

Remove and dispose of the native log stringer bridges and log bridge crib abutments, at Silver

Creek and Willame Creek by scattering the logs in the local forest area as directed by the

Contracting Officer.

Construct structurally adequate debris shields to contain debris within the construction limits.

Do not permit debris to enter waterways or areas designated not to be disturbed.

208 - Structure Excavation and Backfill for Selected Major Structures

Construction Requirements

208.04 General.

Add the following to the end of the second sentence of the third paragraph:

"... to the CO a minimum of 5 days prior to beginning excavation work."

Add the following to the end of the third sentence of the third paragraph:

"...to the CO a minimum of 15 days prior to installation."

208.09 Foundation Preparation.

Add the following after the first paragraph:

The foundation elevation is defined as the bottom of footings, for spread footing placement; the bottom of the pile cap, for construction of pile foundations; and the toe of the wall, for construction of retaining walls, except wingwalls at bridges.

Replace all material from any over-excavation below the designated footing elevation with concrete, compacted gravel, or foundation fill at the direction of the CO.

When boulders or irregular, fractured, or seamed bedrock precludes excavation to the designated footing elevation without further loosening of previously solid material, the CO may order removal of such loose material and allow payment for concrete, gravel, or structural backfill that is required to restore foundation material to the designated elevation

208.13 Measurement.

Add the following to the second paragraph:

(f) Material excavated to construct end walls or wing walls which lie outside the excavation limits specified above.

Add the following paragraph:

Foundation over-excavation and the resulting replacement material will not be measured for payment unless the CO determines the over-excavation was unavoidable because of the nature of the material.

251 - Riprap

251.03_nat_us_06_18_2007

251.03 General.

Add the following:

Place riprap under or adjacent to structures before placing prefabricated superstructure units or constructing superstructure falsework unless otherwise approved by the CO.

251.08 Measurement.

Payment for excavation and embankment required for placement of riprap is indirectly included in the pay item for riprap.

262 – Grouted Rebar Columns

262.01 This work consists of all necessary equipment, labor and materials needed to drill and install grouted rebar columns as shown on the drawings and in accordance with these specifications. Drill and install grouted rebar columns using 3 inch minimum diameter casing to construct the grouted rebar columns as Type B micropiles with low pressure grouting. Install and grout in general accordance with Publication no. FHWA NHI-05-039 Micropile Design and

Construction Reference Manual.

Material

256.02 Conform to the following Subsection:

Reinforcing Steel 709.01

Grout 722.02(e)

262.03 Equipment Requirements.

(a) Grouting Equipment. Use a high speed high shear (colloidal type) mixer with two separate holding tanks and water dosing tanks capable of providing a continuous mixing and pumping operation (one for flushing grout and one for final grout) with the holding tanks to have a variable speed high-efficiency paddle mixer that maintains a thoroughly mixed grout while waiting to be pumped. Ensure tanks or mixers have sufficient capacity to allow continuous, uninterrupted flushing or grouting during drilling. Connect the grout pump directly to the agitated storage tank to provide a continuous pumping operation.

Provide a piston or plunger pump with a minimum flow rate of approximately 4.3 cubic feet per minute (32 gallons per minute) and pressure capability of 300 pounds per square inch (psi).

Provide a secondary pressure capability of a minimum of 1,000 psi to clean out grout or dirt blockages in hoses or hollow-core bars.

(b) Drilling Equipment. Provide drilling equipment capable of drilling gravel to boulder sized material and advance casing to required depths for grouted rebar columns.

262.04 Installation Requirements.

(a) Grouting. Provide a neat cement grout with a water/cement (w/c) ratio of 0.4 to 0.5.

Additives are not allowed without approval by the Contracting Officer.

Batch grout at the specified W/C ratio into the mixer using a calibrated tank or flow meter.

Always place water before cement into mixer. Mix grout for a minimum of two minutes or as directed by the cement supplier. Thereafter, continuously agitate grout in the storage tank. Do not add additional water unless authorized by the Contracting Officer. Inject grout within 45 minutes after the water is initially added to the cement. When the ambient temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit, or higher, inject grout within 15 minutes after mixing.

Do not allow grout to exceed a temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Add shaved ice to the water before mixing cement to control the grout temperature. To prevent flash-setting of the grout, cover mixing tanks with wetted cloths and spray grout hoses and anchor bars with water.

Mix sufficient flushing grout and pump into storage tanks.

(b) Grouted Rebar Column Installation. Advance casing to micropile depth using water as the drilling medium; bentonite or other hole stabilization additives are not allowed. Flush holes clean of excess cuttings. Install rebar with centralizers located a maximum of 3 feet from the top and bottom of the bars and at intervening spacing not exceeding 10 feet. Reinforcing steel couplers may be used provided they develop the full strength of the reinforcing steel as specified by the supplier.

Tremie grout from bottom up, to fill the casing. Extract casing incrementally with pressure added to the grout column not to exceed 150 psi. Place grout in one continuous operation such that grout flushes continuously out of the hole. Take necessary precautions to provide grout that is free of lumps and air pockets.

262.05 Acceptance. Material for grouted columns will be evaluated under Subsections 106.02 and 106.03. Construction of grouted columns and services will be evaluated under Subsections

106.02 and 106.04. Grouting will be evaluated under Subsections 106.02 and 106.04.
