Item 15701, Erosion Control, Silt Fence- At each small culvert (18” and 24”), approx. 25’ each side of flow line at the lower end of the culverts, deeper culverts and 36” and 48” culverts, approx. 50’ each side of flow line, 60”, 72” and 84” culverts, 100’ each side of flow line. Also place below areas where road shoulder work is being done. In those areas, place below the affected area and extend 25’ past work area on each end. The cost of the silt fence is incidental to the other contract items.

4. Item 20407, Select Borrow, this item is for use in rebuilding the roadway and approaches at the wall at milepost 2.75. The wall volume and aggregate are paid for separately.

5. Item 20411, Embankment construction consists of the material that is removed and replaced on fill sections that are re-constructed.

6. Item 20415, Unsuitable Excavation, this item is the material which must be removed to build the retaining wall and geocomposite drain system at milepost 2.75, including the approaches on each end. This material shall be hauled to the waste area at Milepost 3.08 and stockpiled up against the other stockpiled material.

The stockpiled material shall be pushed up with a dozer, tracked and shaped to drain and minimize the area used. The pile shall be smoothed out and seeded following use. Seeding shall meet Forest Service native seed requirements and costs will be incidental to Item 20415.

7. Item 20416, Excavated Asphalt, this material shall be removed from National

Forest System Lands and disposed of in a manner that meets all State and Local laws.

8. Item 25102A, Riprap Class 5, shall be used at the inlets and outlets of culverts.

Item 25102B will be used to reinforce the fill at milepost 3.53.

All 24” and 36” culverts shall have 3 tons of riprap placed at the inlet and 5 tons placed at the outlet. All 48” and larger culverts shall have 4 tons of riprap placed at the inlet and 8 tons placed at the outlet.

9. Item 25314, Gabions shall be placed as shown in the drawings. The gabion baskets shall be 3’Hx3W’x6’L. All fabric for gabion placement, both below and behind gabions shall be incidental to the cost of the gabions.

10. Item 27301,Geocell System Retaining Wall is a retaining wall built of Geocell material. (See Specification) Geocell panels shall be 8” high by 8’ wide by 21’ long nominal dimensions and have individual cell size of approximately 8.8” by 10.2”.

Type III-A geotextile shall be placed over every third panel in height and for the full width of the excavation. (All the way to the back wall) The cost of the fabric is incidental to Geocell System Retaining Wall, Item 27301.

At Milepost 2.75 Geocell wall location, construct truck turnaround to right just before the site. Light clearing, and brush removal will be required. Aggregate, if needed will be removed following all work at the site. This work is incidental to Item 27301 Geocell System retaining wall.

11. Item 32201, Aggregate base is for use in raising grade on shoulders and as sub-base material at the milepost 2.75 retaining wall prior to placement of the asphalt.

12. Item 40401A, Minor Hot Asphalt Concrete, is for use as shown on the drawings for patching, section paving and overlays. Item 40401B will be placed as directed by the Contracting Officer. All asphalt patches shall have Tack Coat applied before placing asphalt. Cost of Tack coat will be incidental to Item 40401A and 40401B.

Surface preparation prior to paving missing pavement sections: Gravel shall be removed from the pavement edge to a depth of at least 4”. This excess material shall be incorporated into the subgrade of the area to be paved. If the pavement edge is not vertical and reasonably flat, the edge shall be saw cut to give a flat surface. Tack coat edge prior to placing asphalt, incidental to item 40401. The subgrade shall be approved by the Contracting Officer prior to placing asphalt.

13. Items 40950, Chip Seal will be placed for the entire length of the job. Pavement cleaning and edge cleaning is required prior to paving. Payment for cleaning is incidental to Items 40401A, 40401B and 40950.

The contract estimate of 5000 lineal feet may be adjusted if additional crack filling is required. Contractor shall keep track of the lineal feet as the job progresses.

15. Items 60211, 60275A, 60275B, 60275C, 60275D and 60275E will include necessary roadway excavation to culvert depth, furnishing the culvert, backfill including compaction and preparation for paving. Paving will be paid as a separate item. Estimated excavation per pipe is 150 CY to 250 CY. Some will be more and some less. Contractor shall field verify culvert lengths and depths prior to bidding on the job.

Removal of the old culverts is incidental to the installation of the new culverts including the cost of disposal of the old culverts which become the property of the Contractor and must be removed and legally disposed off National Forest System lands.
