Please find responses for questions below as follows:
1. Type 3 reflective sheeting is the minimum required product for Forest Service signs. After further research it has been determined that the type 4 reflective sheeting is a higher grade product that will exceed the minimum requirements. If a bidder wishes to substitute the type 4 as it is more readily available, the Forest Service will allow it. A revision has been made to project specification 02722, section 2.02 to allow type 3 or type 4 reflective sheeting.
2. As identified by EM 7100-15, chapter 3C, a double post is required for any sign greater than 36" in horizontal dimension or greater than 10 square feet in surface area, a 30"x30" diamond sign will only require one post. Our specification had specified using steel posts at all single post applications and wood posts at all double post applications, unfortunately an error was made as to the suitability of single post steel posts. Therefore, wood 4x4 posts shall be required at all single and double post applications except for sign types OM-3L and OM-3R where a single steel post shall be used. See revised project specification 02722, section 3.08.
3. The installation date and vandal warning decals are to be supplied by the contractor. The contractor may choose any supplier provided they meet our specifications. Our typical supplier for decals is Unicor, they will sell directly to a private contractor with approval from the Forest Service. Upon award of the contract, if the contractor chooses to use Unicor we would simply notify Unicor of the contractor's information to allow the purchase to be made.
See link below to the Unicor Forest Service catalog, page 37 shows the required decals and costing information.
http://www.unicor.gov/information/publications/pdfs/industrial/CATMI400_web.pdf
4. The revision to specification 02722, section 1.02 provides an updated link to the forest service sign and poster guideline (EM 7100-15) and eliminates the reference to the field sign installation guide document.
