1.03 COORDINATION
A Project meetings will be called for by either as the situation warrants. At least 48 hour notice shall be given when possible. Coordinate scheduling, submittals, and Work of the various Sections; assure efficient and orderly sequence of interdependent construction elements.

1.02 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
A Submittal Form: Identify Project, Contractor, subcontractor, supplier; and pertinent Contract Document references.
B Affix Contractor's signed stamp, certifying that review, verification of products required, field dimensions, adjacent Work, and coordination of information is in accordance with the requirements of the Work and Contract Documents.
C Identify variations from Contract Documents and product or system limitations which may be detrimental to successful performance of the Work.
D Revise and resubmit submittals as required; identify all revisions made since previous submittal.
1.03 PROGRESS SCHEDULES
A Submit initial progress schedule in duplicate within 10 days after receipt of Notice to Proceed.
B Submit revised schedules with each Application for Payment, identifying changes since previous version or as requested by the CO.
C Submit a horizontal bar chart with separate line for each major section of Work or operation identifying first work day of each week.
1.04 PRODUCTS LIST
A Within 10 days after date of Notice to Proceed, submit complete list of major products proposed for use, with name of manufacturer, trade name, and model number of each product.
1.05 PRODUCT DATA
A Submit two copies of product data. One copy will be returned to the Contractor indicating approval, rejected, or partially approved.
B Mark each copy to identify applicable products, models, options, and other data. Supplement manufacturers' standard data to provide information unique to this project.
C Manufacturer’s Instructions: When specified in individual specification
Sections, submit manufacturers' printed instructions for delivery, storage, assembly, installation, adjusting, and finishing, in quantities specified for product data.
D Certificates: When specified in individual specification Sections, submit manufacturers' certificate to Government for review, in quantities specified for product data. Indicate material or product conforms to or exceeds specified requirements. Submit supporting reference data, affidavits, and certifications as appropriate.
1.06 SAMPLES
A Submit samples to illustrate functional and aesthetic characteristics of the product.
B Submit samples of finishes in custom colors selected, textures, and patterns for
Government’s selection.

1.07 CONSTRUCTION PHOTOGRAPHS
A Preconstruction Photography:
1. Provide photography by a professional photographer with documented experience with historic buildings.
2. Photographs shall be unobstructed by scaffolding where it is possible and be safely accomplished.
3. Photographs shall meet the requirements of the HABS/HAER Standards.

1.03 PREPARATION
A Determine type and quality of existing elements by inspection and/or necessary testing, and by existing workmanship as a minimum standard.
B Verify that demolition is complete, and that restoration areas are ready for new work.
C Cut, move or remove elements as necessary for access to restoration work;
replace and restore at completion.
1.04 RESTORATION PROCEDURES
A Existing Stone:
1. General: The restored chimneys must match the original to the greatest degree practicable.
2. Document existing chimney with 35 mm black and white photography, each elevation.
a. Provide original negatives and two sets of fiber-based archival prints, 8x10 size.
b. Photograph shots:
1) entire structure, excluding the weather vane
2) Close up of the weathervane in-situ.
3) Interior, including vertical shots down the chimney.
4) Details shots as ordered by CO
c. Exterior photographs without scaffolding being visible. Possible methods include:
1) Erecting scaffolding with sufficient width.
2) Use of a crane, “cherry picker”, or other vehicle.
3. Provide white marking paint of sufficient durability for this Project. Marking paint shall be removable and shall degrade within one year.
4. Method of marking shall be approved by the C.O. prior to prosecution of work.
5. Provide test area for marking paint test and review by the C.O.
6. Placement drawing
a. Before demolition commences, set up a coordinate system with a baseline. Submit to the C.O. for approval.
b. Before removing a stone, record its identification number, grid location, size, orientation and shape on a measured drawing.
c. If more than one drawing is used, all the drawings shall have the same scale. Use a common architectural scale.
d. In lieu of the above, the Contractor may make a direct tracing of the chimney using plastic sheeting. Record the identification number on the tracing.
7. Mark each stone unit to be removed indicating orientation, grid coordinates and elevations.
8. Remove and clean each stone of mortar and store in a protected secure location.
9. Arrange storage of units so they may be readily retrieved for re-installation. See storage requirements under Section 01600.
10. Reinstallation: Specified under Section 04425.
B Existing Metal Elements:
1. Carefully remove items, record locations relative to the grid on the drawing.
2. Deliver items to shop, for restoration and repair.
3. Restoration, repair and reinstallation: Specified under Section 05900.
1.05 ALTERATION PROCEDURES
A New Materials: Match existing products and work for patching and extending elements.
B Remove unsuitable material, such as decayed wood, corroded metal, and deteriorated masonry and concrete. Replace with specified new products.
C Remove abandoned elements and debris from concealed spaces.
D Close openings in exterior envelope to protect interior spaces from extremes of weather, temperature and humidity. Insulate systems to prevent condensation.
E Coordinate alteration work to expedite completion and to accommodate occupancy.
F Remove, cut and patch work in a manner to minimize damage and to provide means of restoring elements to original condition.
G Repair penetrations as specified under Section 01732.
1.06 REPAIR OF SURFACES
A Patch or replace portions of existing surfaces to remain which are damaged, lifted, or discolored.
B Repair substrate as necessary, before patching finish.
C Finish patches to provide a uniform finish and texture over entire plane. When finish cannot be matched, refinish entire plane to nearest intersections.
1.07 HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
A Provide labor, materials, services, permits, and equipment necessary to identify, access, remove, monitor, document and dispose of asbestos containing material.

B If undocumented hazardous materials are observed or suspected in the project area, proceed under contract clause Differing Site Conditions, immediately stop Work and notify the C.O.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A Monitor quality control over suppliers, manufacturers, Products, services, site conditions, and workmanship, to produce Work of specified quality.
B Comply with the applicable instructions of indicated manufacturers.
1.03 FIELD SAMPLES
A Construct field samples at the site for review as required by individual specifications Sections. Acceptable samples represent a quality level for the Work.
B Acceptable samples may be incorporated into the Work. Remove rejected samples from the project site.
1.04 INSPECTION AND TESTING LABORATORY SERVICES
A Contractor shall appoint, employ, and pay for services of an independent testing firm approved by the CO to perform inspection and testing.
B The testing firm shall perform inspections, tests, and other services as required in individual specification sections and as dictated by the tests being performed.
C Contractor shall provide access to facilities, furnish samples as requested by testing firm and as required in individual specification sections.
Quality Requirements: 01400
D Contractor shall submit test reports of results of all testing and inspections required in individual specification sections within 24 hours.
E Contractor shall re-test all materials, equipment and construction found not in conformances with the specified requirements and as rejected by the CO.
1.05 MANUFACTURERS' FIELD SERVICES AND REPORTS
A When specified in individual specification Sections, require material or product suppliers or manufacturers to provide qualified personnel to observe site conditions and to initiate instructions when necessary.
B Report observations and recommendations that are supplemental or contrary to the manufacturers' written instructions in writing to the CO within 24 hours.
C All changes shall be approved by both the manufacturer and the CO.

1.02 STANDARDS
A Comply with the applicable requirements of referenced standards.
B Specified standards establish minimum quality for the Work except when more stringent tolerances, codes, or specified requirements indicate higher standards or more precise workmanship.
C Should specified reference standard conflict with Contract Documents, refer to contract clause “Order of Precedence”, the more stringent standard shall be applicable.
D Conform to reference standard by date of issue current as of date of Contract
Documents.

1.03 TEMPORARY UTILITIES
A Power:
1. The Government will pay for electrical power used. The Government will provide electrical power from existing outlets up to their rated capacities.
2. Provide power outlets for construction operations, branch wiring, distribution boxes, and flexible power cords as required to field office.
3. Exercise care to conserve energy.
B Telephone:
1. Provide, maintain and pay for telephone service to field office.
2. Cellular phones are acceptable.
C Water: Connect to existing water source for construction operations.
1.04 CONSTRUCTION FACILITIES
A Field Office:
1. As required to administer the Work.
2. Meeting space may be provided by the Government within Timberline
Lodge.
B Storage Sheds: Secure, weather-tight, ventilated enclosures. See Section 01600.
1.05 CONSTRUCTION AIDS
A Scaffolding:
1. Standard: Comply with applicable OSHA requirements.
2. Design Engineer: Design structural members under direct supervision of a
Professional Structural Engineer experienced in design of scaffolding, registered in State of Oregon.
3. Design restrictions
a. Vertical loads shall not be imposed on the building.
b. The vertical walls can be used to resist lateral loads provided penetrations are not made into the walls.
c. Scaffolding members shall not be placed in front of windows.
4. Submittal: Submit shop drawings under seal and signature of the Engineer of Record.
B Material Handling Equipment:
1. Provide necessary cranes, hoists, towers, or other lifting devices.
2. Use only experienced operators.
3. Remove equipment as soon as possible after task is ended.
4. Coordinate placement of such equipment with C.O.
5. Obtain required permits and meet requirements of governing authorities regarding applicable regulations.
C Provide protections as required to prevent tools, materials and/or debris to free fall from building.
1.06 VEHICULAR ACCESS AND PARKING
A Designated existing on-site roads may be used for construction traffic.
B Ensure that on-site and public roads are maintained free of earth and construction debris.
1.07 TEMPORARY BARRIERS AND ENCLOSURES
A Provide fencing to prevent unauthorized entry to construction areas and to protect the public and existing facilities and adjacent properties from damage.
B Exterior Closures: Provide temporary secured, insulated weather-tight closures at exterior openings, to permit acceptable working conditions and protection of the Work.
C Interior Closures:
1. Provide temporary partitions as required to separate Work areas from occupied areas, to prevent penetration of dust and moisture into occupied areas, and to prevent damage to existing materials and equipment.
2. Paint surfaces exposed to view from occupied areas.
1.08 TEMPORARY CONTROLS
A Protection:
1. Protect installed Work and provide special protection where specified in individual specification Sections.
2. Prohibit traffic or storage upon waterproofed or roofed surfaces.
B Safety
1. Provide security and needed materials to prevent unauthorized entry into the construction area.
1.09 REMOVAL OF UTILITIES, FACILITES, AND CONTROLS
A Remove temporary utilities, equipment, facilities, materials, prior to final inspection.
B Clean and repair damage caused by installation or use of temporary work.
C Restore existing facilities used during construction to original condition.
Tree and Plant Protection: 01530
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
A Section includes temporary fencing, barricades, and guards to protect trees, plants and groundcovers not indicated to be removed, as necessary and required to prevent damage above and below grade.
1.02 DEFINITIONS
A Dripline: Outer perimeter of branches of any tree or plant.
B Groundcover: Includes but not limited to plants and grass.
1.03 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A Protect existing trees and plants.
B Provide and Install tree protection fencing as detailed and shall prevent damage to shrubs, groundcover, trees, root systems, soil, bark, foliage, branches and limbs due to construction activities, including but not limited to:
1. Soil contamination, erosion, and compaction.
2. Excessive wetting, and ponding due to storm water, and construction run-off.
3. Alteration of grade, stockpiling of soil, debris, and materials.
4. Damage to soil, roots, bark, trunk, limbs, branches, and foliage.
5. Prevent unauthorized cutting, breaking, skinning and bruising of roots, branches, and bark.
1.04 SUBMITTALS
A Procedural proposal for tree and plant protection, describe methods of protection, and stabilization, provide drawings and supporting documentation as directed.
B Contractor’s Condition Inspection; include written report and color photographs.
1.05 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A Install protection during initial mobilization at the Work site, and maintain until final inspection.
B Fencing:
1. Fencing shall be installed at the tree and plant protection areas as directed by the C.O.
2. Tree and plant protection fences shall remain in place until all Work is completed and shall not be removed or relocated without the approval of the C.O.
C Driving and Parking:
1. Not permitted off paved surfaces without the approval of the C.O.
2. When approved, the Contractor shall place plywood of sufficient thickness and width to support vehicles and prevent rutting on the area to be driven on.
D Storage of materials and Debris: Not permitted off paved surfaces or where indicated.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A Verification of Conditions: Inspect trees, plants, and groundcovers, document existing conditions prior to installation of protection.
3.02 EXECUTION
A Pruning and Cutting of Branches and Foliage:
1. Review conditions with C.O. prior to need for work, and proceed as directed.
2. Perform pruning and cutting with sharp instruments intended for the purpose; do not break or chop.
B Existing Grading: Maintain within drip line of trees and plants unless otherwise indicated on the drawing and approved by the C.O.
C Tree Protection:
1. Provide temporary fence.
2. Extend fencing ten feet beyond dripline.
3. Prevent entry into protected areas except as authorized in writing by the
C.O.
3.03 REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF TREES AND PLANTS
A Repair trees or shrubs damaged by construction operations as directed by the C.O.
B Make repairs promptly after damage occurs to prevent progressive deterioration of damaged trees or shrubs.
C Damaged Trees, Shrubs and Groundcover:
1. Replace where C.O. determines restoration to normal growth pattern is not possible; plant and maintain as directed by C.O.

1.02 PRODUCTS
A Do not use materials and equipment removed from existing premises, except as specifically identified or allowed by the Contract Documents.
B Use interchangeable components of the same manufacturer for similar components.
1.03 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A Transport, handle, store and protect products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B Arrange deliveries in accordance with construction schedules; coordinate to avoid conflict with Work and site conditions.
C Deliver products in undamaged condition in manufacturer's original containers or packaging with identifying labels intact and legible.
D Inspect shipments to assure compliance with Contract Documents and reviewed submittals, and that products are undamaged.
E Prevent soiling or damage to products or packaging.
F Interior Storage: Maintain required temperature and humidity ranges. Verify that Owner furnished storage meets product manufacturer's requirements.
