648.03 General. Place streambed simulation material on a prepared surface to form a well-graded, low permeability mass, similar in appearance and texture to the natural streambed. Do not drive metal track or rubber tired equipment directly on metal or concrete structure surfaces.
648.04 Placed Streambed Simulation Material and Channel Rock.
(a) Method A, Machine Placed. Furnish material according to Subsection 705.07 at the bed class shown in the Plans. Place stream simulation rock in one or more layers with a layer depth less than 1 ½ times the maximum dimension of the stream simulation rock. Place stream simulation by methods that do not cause segregation or damage to the prepared surface. Place or rearrange individual rocks by mechanical methods to obtain a compact low permeability mass matching streambed simulation details.
(b) Method B, Cross-Vane Structure Placement. Furnish rock according to Subsection 705.08 at the size shown in the cross-vane structure details. Place or rearrange individual rocks by mechanical or hand labor methods to obtain a shape matching cross-vane structure details. Fill all voids left during placement of cross-vane structures with streambed simulation material. All cross-vane structure locations must be approved by the CO prior to the excavation or placement of any rock.
(c) Method C, Placed Channel Rock. Furnish rock according to Subsection 705.08 at the size shown in the Plans. Place or rearrange individual rocks by mechanical or hand labor methods. All placed channel rock locations must be approved by the CO prior to the excavation or placement of any rock.
648.05 Compaction.
Compact the material using mechanical and/or hand labor methods to form a well-graded, low permeability mass, similar in appearance and texture to the natural streambed.
648.06 Acceptance. Placing streambed simulation material, cross-vane structures, and channel rock will be evaluated under Subsections 106.02 and 106.04.
Measurement
648.08 Measure the items listed in the bid schedule according to Subsection 109.02.
Payment
648.09 The accepted quantities, measured as provided in Subsection 109.02, will be paid at the contract unit price per unit of measurement for Section 648 pay items listed in the bid schedule. Payment will be full compensation for the work prescribed in this Section. See Subsection 109.05.
705 - ROCK
Add the following:
705.07 Streambed Simulation Rock.
(a) General. Utilize a mixture of soil, gravel, cobble, and boulders to simulate a natural streambed. All streambed simulation rock shall be government furnishing and either salvaged on-site or from the gravel pit as shown on the cover map of the plans. Streambed material may require sorting and mixing to meet the required gradations specified. The cobbles and boulders should be hard, durable rock that conforms to test values in 705.02.

Add the following:
705.08 Channel Rock.
(a) General. Furnish hard, durable rock that consists of intact blocks without open fractures, foliation, or other planes of weakness. Conform to test values in 705.02.
(b) Sized and shapes. Furnish rocks that are generally cubical, tabular, or rectangular in shape, with dimensions as designated in the plans conforming to the following table:
