ie. spreading straw.

B – Pull culvert, restore natural gradient of stream channel, rip, seed and place slash over entire section.

.53 Miles. (See 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 below)

C – Recontour beginning of road. Rip and seed. .27 miles. (See 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 below)

D – Recountour beginning of road to landing, scatter slash and seed. Erosion protection measures needed.

Rip and seed remaining length of road and spread slash. Portion of road within creek channel does not need treated. .46 miles (See 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 below)

E – Recontour beginning of road. .07 miles (See 1, 2, 3 below)

F – Recontour both ends of road. .21 miles Outslope remaining length, rip, seed and spread slash where available 1.0 Miles. (See 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 below)

Specifications:

1. The entrance of all decommissioned or closed roads, (200’-300’ or sight distance which ever is less as determined by the Forest Service), would be recontoured to prevent motorized entry.

2. Recontoured fill material will be piled to match the natural slope of the landscape or a 2:1 slope, placed against the road cut and gradually outsloped to the outer road prism edge.

3. Roads that cannot be recontoured, the entrance will be designed to prevent motorized entry by placing rocks or logs over entrance.

4. The remaining road bed will be outsloped >5%.

5. Rip roads to 6”-12”.

6. Slash will be placed over the entire section of recontoured road.

7. Disturbed material would be seeded with recommended seed mixtures (refer to K-G.6.0.1#).

8. Erosion control methods (waddles) would be used to prevent sediment-laden water from entering a stream. Waddles will be removed by hand after work is complete.

9. Restore natural gradient of the stream within the crossing site by removing all fill material.

Gradient would be an average of the upstream and downstream gradients of the channel.

10. In-channel excavation work. To minimize sediment delivery to streams, activities will be delayed until flow has ceased or is at lowest flow (base flow).

1. Pile Landing Slash

A landing is considered a place where any logs or products are gathered for loading. Logs not meeting utilization standards accumulated at landings shall be decked at locations agreed to in writing by the Forest Service. Slash created from landing construction must be piled away from residual timber. All slash accumulated at landings shall be piled in locations pre-approved by the Forest Service.

Where feasible, landing slash shall be sorted and piled according to the diameter of the slash. All slash 6 inches in diameter and less shall be piled separately. All slash greater than 6 inches in diameter and longer than 1 foot in length shall be piled in a separate pile.

Piles shall be reasonably compact and free of soil to facilitate burning. Piles will not be less than 4 feet in height. Piles shall be of a size and location that will not impair road use or result in damage to residual timber.

Piles shall be located at least 50 feet from residual timber. Piles shall not be more than 45 feet long.

All pieces that extend more than 4 feet in any direction from the windrow or pile profile will be cut off and returned to the windrow or pile.

The piling of landings will be done by a grapple-type machine.

2. Whole Tree Yarding (WTY) (Tractor/Jammer Units: 1,2,7,8,11,14,20-22,24,25,27,28) Purchaser shall leave tops and limbs of felled trees attached to Included Timber and tractor/jammer yard them to landings. Limbs greater than 3 inches in diameter may have to be lopped where the tree falls if damage, during skidding, to the residual stand is occurring due to the large limbs being left on the skidded trees. Tops and limbs which are lost on the way to the landing site due to normal felling, skidding and/or yarding operations are not required to be yarded and will be lopped and scattered as described below in Item 3.
