Snipe Creek Instream Restoration Project Questions and Answers
The following questions and answers are provided to claiify the work under AG-0116-S- 09-0052:
1. How much rock will be necessary for the reconstruction of the access road?
Answer: No rock is necessary. The intent of the contract is to clear enough roadway width for safe efficient access by the contractor. The contractor will use locally cleared materials (alder and trees growing on the road way and bermed shot rock removed from old drainage structures) to improve the road way to access the stream for restoration work and to harvest and stockpile rootwad trees adjacent to the road.
2. A Hitachi 110 is a small backhoe for harvesting and moving 24” diameter trees
60ft long and there are no trucks specified to haul the trees to the site. What pay item covers this work?
Answer: The trees to be harvested are adjacent to the roadway. The Contractor will stage harvested rootwad trees adjacent to the harvest area. All harvest will be by equipment rental. The Contractor will clear an area designated in the field by the CO or their designee and place rootwad trees for helicopter mobilization within the cleared zone.
The size of the machine is based on limited working room in the channel and soft ground condition. A Hitachi 120 or equivalent size excavator can also be used in the stream channel for placement. The harvest of trees along the access road can be accomplished with a larger backhoe in the Hitachi 200 size range or equal as an option to the Contractor since placement in the stream is scheduled for a different time than harvesting.
If large rootwad trees are at or above the excavators lifting / operating capacity the log length will be reduced to a smaller length based on mutual agreement in the field by the Contractor and CO or their designee.
Work is anticipated to proceed in the following order:
a. Clear access road enough for safe equipment access to the pioneer puncheon road to the stream.
b. As the excavator mobilize back, harvest and stage trees on the roadway for helicopter mobilization.
c. After the helicopter mobilizes trees, construct puncheon road to the stream and place log structures as designated in the field by the CO or their designee.
