About this file

The document is a specification sheet for custom prefabricated air monitoring shelters issued by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). ADEM is procuring three specialized shelters for housing air monitoring instrumentation: two 10'L x 8'W x 8'H shelters to be delivered to Helena and Wetumpka, Alabama, and one 20'L x 8'W x 8'H modified shipping container shelter to be delivered in the Africatown area near Prichard, Alabama. Each shelter will have unique configurations tailored to specific monitoring needs, including dedicated instrument racks, electrical systems, HVAC, lighting, and specialized inlet and exhaust systems for monitoring ozone, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter.

The shelters will be fully prefabricated off-site and delivered to pre-existing concrete pads, with detailed specifications for construction materials, electrical components, and environmental controls. The shelters feature premium components like SquareD electrical systems, 1-ton cooling capacity HVAC units, programmable thermostats, and R-25 equivalent insulation. Technical drawings must be submitted to ADEM for approval to ensure compliance with specifications. Delivery is included in the contract, with precise GPS coordinates provided for each installation site. The document indicates these shelters are likely funded through infrastructure or environmental monitoring programs, with a focus on creating robust, specialized environments for scientific air quality measurement equipment.

• High Efficiency rotary compressor.

• Automatic condensate disposal system.

• Warranty-12 months from beginning date of service.

5. Shelter Configuration

Shelters #1 and #2– Monitor configuration (Ozone only) – see attached schematic

• No roof penetrations.

• Side Inlet - One (1) Aluminum Folding Mast; Includes aluminum folding mast, hinged at

1/3 point, 45 degree weld fitting for tubing entrance, flexible conduit for connection to building for CAS inlet. Height of mast must allow inlet to extend 3ft above roof line.

• One (1) floor mounted exhaust manifold, includes PVC manifold with ¼” quick release ports. Located near the instrument rack.

• Two (2) 48” LED light fixtures with wall-mounted power switch.

• One (1) dedicated instrument rack outlet, 120V 20A, Twist-lock, wall or ceiling-mounted.

• Three (3) 120V 20A duplex interior wall-mounted receptacles.

• One (1) instrument rack- 24”W x 30”D x 75”H, Open Frame Type Steel (Painted), includes wire/tubing management system with access to the dedicated instrument rack receptacle.

• One (1) NEMA 4 data port junction box; side penetration through the wall to allow miscellaneous wires to be routed to the exterior. Installed adjacent to side inlet.

• Workbench- with a moisture, heat and scratch-resistant laminate surface.

• See approximate configuration in diagram on next page.

Shelter #1 & #2

Shelter#3 – Monitor configuration (Ozone, SO2, PM2.5-BAM 1022) – see attached schematic

• Two (2) roof penetrations to accommodate analyzer inlets (for API T100 and API T400) one over each rack. Flanges and caps included. Inlets should be located adjacent to steel plating of the roof system so they are accessible from the roof deck but not under it.
